Still cannot get Kingston to download [Solved]
Been trying incessantly to download the updates, but it just goes too slow, hangs, won't progress. Was able to get the basic part of Rapture Session, only. Cannot get the other add-ons for it. Kingston itself sticks at about 6.5 percent downloaded. I've tried deleting the cached downloads, but no matter what it doesn't work. This is getting frustrating, I cannot recall such a bottle neck for the past two days--I'm assuming it will work in a few days, but it's bumming me out on a holiday weekend that I cannot use the new tools that many others are already using. All my past updates have been easier to get, my internet speed is fine otherwise. If anyone has a tip on how to bypass the bottleneck let me know; otherwise, I'll see Kingston next month, I guess.

Hi. Maybe try to download from cakewalk.com, to CCC download folder? I have not had any issues with downloads myself, but it might be worth a try in the meantime. Best of luck.

Not to add to your woes but I downloaded everything in under 5 mins last night. It might speed up in 4 hours if there is some 24 hour cycle going on here.

I feel your pain. I, too, have been trying to download the update ever since it was released and I come away with nothing. I believe it has a lot to do with the amount of content in the update. All of the samples for Rapture Pro and Session. QUESTIONS: 1.) I see where I can download Rapture Pro and Session from the website, but if I take that route - won't it still show as being needed in the CCC? 2.) What is the best way to download the Kingston update (the speed improvements to Sonar) without going through CCC? Thanks

Appreciate the suggestions, folks. I did already try to download directly from CW website, but it says it's going to take 4 days to complete the download, ha ha. Not kidding, BTW. I have no idea why, just this once, I am unable to update anything. And I've been trying off and on, even left the computer on a download all night, and came back and it had not moved at all from the percent downloaded--OVERNIGHT--imagine that! Well, maybe if this persists over the weekend, I will have to contact CW support and see what they say. But I'm a holiday sourpuss over this, for sure.

Just to add, if i try and download just the Kingston update itself--(not update all) the total amount of content is 420 MB, which is nothing, should normally take me about a minute to download at most. And it just hangs and slows to nothing. So the amount of content is not really the issue here. But I have no idea what is the issue, as of yet. Color me frustrated.

I seem to recall (in the beginning of the year), that some had issues with IP's, when downloading through CCC (IRRC they were in South America). This was acknowledged by someone from the Cakewalk Staff. Could it be an issue of that sort? My laptop is downloading s bit slower than usual (Wi-Fi), but my studio pc is as fast as usual (connected by cable). Best of luck.

I would contact your ISP and see what is the hang up. Unless you are on a 300 baud modem 4 days is ridiculous.

Before you do that check www.speedtest.net shows reasonable speeds, waste of time otherwise. The ISP can't control the internet.

If I am understanding you correctly, if you download the files from you Cakewalk account, you place them in the folder that CCC expects them to be, then fire up CCC, and go through the motions, and it 'should' detect that they are already there and then skip the download, verify the files and install them. I say should because I can recall a number of occasions where even though the files were in the correct folder, CCC re downloaded them anyway for whatever reason. I can't recall the actual location that CCC puts the downloaded files, I think it's in Program Data/Cakewalk/Command Center/Downloads, something like that, also likely if you check in the options of CCC in the 'Paths' section perhaps it will give you the location.

John No it can't control the internet but it can control the speed.
Nope John, FYI - The ISP cannot control speed of networks (i.e. "the internet") beyond their servers or whatever pipes they hire/control. It is not like this. The slowest link in the chain is what we are looking at here. If www.speedtest.net gives good results (note it will be slower if downloads are actually happening) then the issue is most likely beyond their networks. This is most often the case. One common issue when downloading large files slowly is is when people change the DNS supplied by the ISP, or that the ISP is supplying an overloaded DNS server. Often a good thing to try is changing their DNS settings to OpenDNS... current IP's are: - 208.67.222.222
- 208.67.220.220
If they are already using OpenDNS then try changing it back to ISP or using another DNS service. There are also other issues as well that could happen: * Overloading of amazon cloud servers serving the files (or fault). * Overload or fault of amazon network infrastructure. * Overload or fault of any network infrastructure in between (if there are faster networks available then the route is likely to change automatically however, depends on how many "routes" are available). If you know the IP address it's downloading from you can do a tracert from the command prompt to how fast the "hops" are. My hunch is however that the amazon servers are just being served up slowly in the OP's part of the world, or some huge process is running on the particular server it's downloading from which is slowing it right down... That's what normally happens. At some stage it will suddenly (and rapidly) probably become a lot faster, as what happened yesterday with a person with a similar issue.

You are talking about bandwidth throttling, that too is an issue and is often by design in the contract. Various laws exist about this all over the world. www.speedtest.net should give a clue here if this is happening or not.

Why do you think I advised him to contact his ISP? He needs to find out why his speed is so slow. Keep in mind he is in the US and we have all sorts of ways for connecting to the internet. Some are lighting fast others are very slow and rely on very old technology. It all depends on where some one is and what is available in that area.

John I suggested he checks www.speedtest.net first before he does as you say, otherwise he will be completely wasting his time as the issue will be outside the scope of the ISP. If speedtest.net gives a slow reading then your advice may be very apt. I have also suggested flipping over DNS servers as well (a common issue).

Whilst not quite there yet I'm more or less on the same lines as Zargg71. People are simply out to disagree with everything. I simply stated he needs to check www.speedtest.net before he (perhaps) needlessly contacts ISP (not actually disagreeing with John) and I end up in a long drawn discussion about how the internet works in order to explain, which is a bit of a waste of time. I must remind myself in future to stop engaging in this nonsense and just ignore rather than write.

Actually you are one of the persons that wants me want to have a break from here. I feel like you are just picking fights. I have tried (the last year or so) to be helpful to the people needing help (if you check, you might find it to be true). But bickering is just (in my opinion) childish.... I wish all the best for the OP, and will lend a hand if I can. (I believe I tried in my first post) But, John... Are you really setting a good example as a host here? I think not...

I try to do my best. I am not perfect by any means. But I do believe that I am not picking fights with anyone. In fact I try hard to not get into fights. Here for example we disagree. I don't see a fight just a different point of view. As to my interchange with Alex again no fight but rather a very different view of the situation. One in which I offered advice and Alex commented negatively about it. A fight did not occur. Sorry that you see things the way you do. You have every right to hold your views as you wish. You can PM me to express your thoughts on things like this if you wish. I hope you do stay and help as much as you can.

Apparently this is 'negative'. How about seeing this as you giving general advice and me also? That's my attitude, life does not have to be a competition, one does not have to tramp on absolutely everything.

I love the forums. They're a master class in passive aggressive behaviour. Yea team!

I have new information to share, still quite puzzling. I've run a few experiments. This problem has occurred suddenly, as I recently (Nov 18th) downloaded the Sampletekk Grand Piano, which had 14 .rar files of 600MB each.I also downloaded and installed a brand new version of Finale with no problem. It did not take long, considering the amount of files downloaded. So fast forward to Nov. 25th, when I learn that the Kingston update is available. That's when the problem started, first in CCC, where I couldn't get any of the available updates to download. Finally got Rapture Session to load, but only the factory content, not any of the add-on sound banks, as of yet. I was able, with lengthy delays, to get one of the two Kingston files (the smaller one with plug-ins only, I believe, about 22 MB to download, doing this from within my account section on the web. All else has failed. Thinking that it was a unique problem to CW servers, I purchased two products from Orange Tree Samples, and tried to download them, but had the same issue on their servers as well. So now I'm thinking it's my computer. Tried a few more things, to no avail. Then went to my downstairs computer (a MAC) and tried to download both cakewalk and the OTS instruments, and could not do it--impossibly slow download followed by a time-out network failed message. So now I'm wondering if there is somthing wrong with my router, but yet my internet speed download and upload are at least 18-35 MB each way, according to speedtests on a couple of different sites, and my browsing experience is fine. I even tried to re-download Finale, and this was slow and quite on me, too. However, I went back and was easily able to download a 600 MB .rar file from the Sampletekk site with no problem. I have downloaded a couple of large .exe files from the web, too with no problem. At this point I am thinking that there is some sort of bottleneck on the server end of the more popular musical sites, such as Cakewalk, Finale, and OTS. I don't want to purchase anything else from Native instruments just to test it out until I figure out what's happening. So at this point--it's not that I cannot download anything, it's just from certain sites, the ones I most want to use at the moment. And because it's Black Friday, it is possible that there are just too many users in my neck of the woods (Massachusetts) trying to download simultaneously. I know that seems strange given it's now been a couple of days since the release of Kingston, but I think I will just see how this plays out in the next few days--perhaps after Cyber Monday. Since I am able to download other large files from other sites of similar types, I have to conclude that it is beyond my control and eminates from the servers from the popular companies. But I won't know for sure for a while to really test this hypothesis further. I have made no other changes to my music computer, which is dedicated 100% to only music--I use my Mac for other stuff, and that computer has the same exact issue. In a way, it's almost fascinating to me, but unfortunately a gigantic waste of a long weekend.

Sounds like the best plan of action is to just wait for the smoke to clear. Black Friday has spread far beyond the borders of the USA and everything seems slow. I usually have a 50 mb per sec transfer speeds. Thanks to Alex for reminding me to run Speedtest and finding out it's down to 35 from 50. It's never been that slow. Kingston will be there for a month.
