Still cannot make the update work.. OK, uninstall/reinstall got it working...
This thread refers to the problem. I want to be sure I get this done right without getting things mixed up. I downloaded the X1b update and whenI try to run it I get the same error box that is pictured in this first post of this thread: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2234956&high=sonarPDR_BU I have two icons on my desktop. One runs X1a without having to "run as administrator" .. frankly I cannot remember exactly why I did this. There is a floder with the missing file and sonarPDR.exe. There is another folder with SonarPDR_BU I don't remember, does thishave something to do with ASIO4all? What do I need to do to properly fix this problem. I have the disks if I need to re-install SonarPDR. If i should uninstall ASIO4all I have been told that I need to manually uninstall all the files, I am not sure how to do this and don't want to mess it up... if anyone cn help me i'd appreciate it. I will check back tomorrow AM... thanks in advance. Julien

Did you try making sure that the SONARPDR.exe file has the original name? If you renamed the SONARPDR.exe go back and name it to the original name which is SONARPDR.

yes, that is the first thing I tried. It did not work. It seems there are two different folders. I will look and post what I find as far as where the missing file is and where it should be. I could just move the file to the other folder but I do not want to screw things up worse. I may have it. SONAR_BU was located in my >downloads>sonar updates folder. SONARPDR.EXE was located in the programs folder. I renamed BU back to .exe and renemed .exe to BU and swapped locations... so now I THINK I am back to where I started before I made the changes. I will try and update now.... well first I am going to read the thread I included in this OP because I noriced it is active and listed above this thread... there may be something there I need to see. I'll check that then try to update again. Thanks for the help. i'll let you know how it goes. J

OK, I renamed SONARPDR.exe to SONAR_BU and renamed SONAR_BU to SONARPDR.exe. BU was located in >downoads>Sonar updates. SonarPDR.exe wasocated in >program files>Cakewalk I tried after that and it did not work. Then I tried moving the X1b update to the Cakewalk folder and it still does not work. It begins and asks about the language. I choose English then get a box that says: SETUP Cannot locate the required version of the program on this system. Please install the correct version of the program to use this patch. However I can run X1 from the folder. It opens fine and I checked, it is X1a build 197. maybe a pathway is wrong... Idon't have a clue. Can anyone tell me where to look, what to check? Thanks.... it always seems like I have the weirdest problems. My entire experience with any sort of DAW... always Sonar has been one problem after another, it is getting old. I am comitted to making it work, to getting whatever hardware I need but this sort of thing is just depressing. If I need to uninstall/reinstall can someone tell me how to get all of ASIO4all off my computer.

I think the SPNARPDR BU is a backup of the original exe that was made after you applied the X1a hotfix, renaming that one back to SOANRPDR sould fix your problem of not being able to install the X1b update. Get that done, try to install the X1b update, and keep us posted as to what's going on after that?

"SonarPDR.exe wasocated in >program files>Cakewalk " that's only the location for the 64bit version. do you have both 64bit and 32bit versions on your system? and which one are you currently trying to update? what is this renaming of sonar's exectuable for? is this due to panup's mods? uninstall ASIO4ALL (which I agree you need to get rid of since you have 2 soundcards - 3 if you use the zoom as a soundcard, too - listed and either of them have their own asio drivers anyway) can be uninstalled just like any other program in the control panel. for win 7, just click on the PROGRAMS then click on ASIO4ALL and then click on UNINSTALL.

Has nothing to do with panup. his work doesn't change the SONARPDR.exe file only the resource library. I'd say the OP has installed the hotfix following X1a for an ASIO issue. In this hotfix you had to replace the SONARPDR.exe file with the hotfix version. SONARPDR.exe should be located in: C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\SONAR X1 Producer\SONARPDR.exe 64 bit or: C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\SONAR X1 Producer\SONARPDR.exe 32 bit

I just downloaded and ran a prgram called Final Uninstaller and removed ASIO4all. I only have the 64bit version of X1 installed and have both X1a and the "hotfix". I downloaded the update for X1 producer. I suposse I could have downloaded the 32bit update, if that is possible... I guess I need to check. I really don't remember why I ended up with SONARPDR.exe and SONAR_BU. I never downloaded the toolbar, the only thing I remember downoading was ASIO4all. I have not tried to update since removing ASIO4all but will try now... nope, still doesn't work. I'm sure I have done something wrong, but I just don't know how to fix it. I'll check the update to try and be sure it isn't a 32 bit update, that could be the problem. Thanks! Julien

I see, Mudgel - thanks, I didn't install the ASIO hotfix, so I wasn't aware of having to rename the executable. ASIO4ALL shouldn't have anything to do with the update working or not. I suggest you uninstall sonar from the control panel and start over, reinstall sonar from your disk or download, update with X1a but NOT the hotfix for ASIO update, then try to install the X1b update.

It looks like that is what I am going to have to do... am I going to run into problems with with extra content on the disks? If I uninstall Sonar X1 will it uninstall the tutorials, audio, DimPro or other stuff? I don't want to make a bigger mess. I checked and SONARPDR.exe is in the proper folder, it isn't in the x86 folder... it opens and runs and it is nuild 198 not 197 like I said before... I can't understand why it opens and runs but the update says it isn't there... this seems like a lot to go through for something that shuld be a simple fix... since it is obviously there and will open either from the folder or a shortcut.... but I will uninstall/reinstall/ reupdate with a then try b again... its a load of crap though. I appreciate your help but I am not happy with CW. Julien

dim pro is a separate installation, you should see it separately in your control panel programs. I would suggest that you do not uninstall it - it should be fine just to leave it alone and should work fine after you've reinstalled sonar. this may be a problem with some people who have installed the hot fix, I don't know.

I had the exact same issues you did. I uninstalled and re-installed,then searched for the locations of the missing files and the files are indeed there. To make a long story short, I rebooted after I re-installed X1 fresh, leaving out the x1a hot fix, I only installed X1a and then before adding any more garnish in the form of add- ons I immediately installed X1b. Everything seems to be working now except for an issue I was having prior to the upgrade with my interface.

It says it can't find TTSlame.dll. That file should be located in the Sonar X1 Producer folder in c:\program files or c:\program files (x86) depending on what version you're installing.

That can't find TTSLAme.dll error is related to the X1a hotfix. His X1 installation seems to be screwed because of the hotfix. Since the OP's SONARPDR.exe files seem to be bad, as an alternative to uninstalling SONAR and starting over, he could just run the SONAR X1 installation disk (without uninstalling X1 first), install the X1 update (without applying the X1a hotfix), and install the X1b update. Then if he has problems, uninstall X1 completely and re-install. But since that requires the time that it takes to re-install the X1 installation disk (download version or boxed), he might as well uninstall X1 completely and re-install. I think he left to do an uninstall and re-install, already.

Yes, I did a re install and it fixed it.... still can't use the ZOOM R16 though... Update: I think it was indeed the "hotfix". Whatever it was... it worked after I uninstalled X1, reinstalled, updated to X1a then X1b. I struggled all afternoon trying to get a ZOOM R16 to work. I uninstalled and reinstalled the R16 64bit drivers. I could get it to work occasionally as an interface, at least I could monitor through it. I could not get it to work as a controller and I am not sure how I got it to work as an interface when it did work. I finally put it away and got out the Line6 UX-2. I had already updated the ASIO drivers for it and it worked almost flawlessly. For some reason it was slow to start. The playback was in sync, it just didn't start right away. Once it decided to work it worked very well. Note, I am not saying that it was playing behind the beat, it was playing back what was happening on the tracks in realtime.. it just was silent for a minute or so when I first started to use it. I have not tried recording through it but I don't expect any problems. ZOOM needs to get their act together though. A tiring and trying day to be sure but all is well that ends well. Maybe try to record tomorrow... Julien

Julien, you're not going to get the zoom, the UX2 AND the Tascam US-122 to work together, especially if you're in ASIO mode. ASIO mode only allows one soundcard driver at a time and those are 3 separate soundcards. ASIO4ALL probably allowed at least 2 of them to work simultaneously in ASIO mode because ASIO4ALL is actually not drivers, but a WDM wrapper. even if you get them all to work in ASIO4ALL or in WDM driver mode, you are still going to have problems trying to use all 3 because they have different clocks and they will not sync together.

I've never tried to use two at once. I think the UX-2 will meet all my needs. Thanks, J

I see. OH! the Zoom R16 is a control surface as well, but I don't see anywhere it specifically says that those faders and knobs will send MIDI codes thru USB. does it do that? if not, then that's why it won't work. I don't know I have never seen one before looking it up just now. but another question - what's the US-122 for? if the UX2 does all you need then why do you have it?

From the Sweetwater page for the Zoom R16: "the R16 connected to your computer, you can use it as a hands-on control surface. The R16 uses Mackie's control emulation, which works with popular DAW software — including Cubase, Logic, Digital Performer, and more." That sounds like it sends MIDI over USB. Julien: Are you sure you setup the Zoom R16 correctly for MIDI. Do you see it in the MIDI/Device section of the Preferences window? The MIDI/Device section is where you select the R16's MIDI in/out so SONAR can use them. After you install the drivers for the R16, and connect the R16 via USB, the MIDI in/out for it should show in the MIDI Device section, and you select those MIDI devices by clicking on the boxes to place a checkmark in them. Then hit apply. Do you see the R16 MIDI in/out there?

If the R16 is seen in the MIDI device section of Prefernces and you selected it's in/out, click on the Control Surfaces section of MIDI in the Preferences and click the yellow star in the top right hand corner to add a new control surface. You can then use the ACT module on the Control Bar to set up the R16 as an ACT controller/surface. Note: Once you select the R16 as a Device in the MIDI section of Preferences and hit apply and OK, you should be able to assign buttons and sliders on the R16 to buttons and slider in SONAR via MIDI Learn. You don't need to setup the R16 as an ACT Controller/Surface or Cakewalk Generic Surface to do this. You may have to read the R16 manual and SONAR's Help file for setup help, but it's worth it, as the R16 appears to be a useful unit as a control surface. Consult the R16's manual to read about the Mackie control emulation. Using a control surface in SONAR requires some learning to setup. No avoiding that. It takes time to understand what to do, but a number of us went through it. There are some good threads about it in the other SONAR forum (the old forum for SONAR Producer and Studio). It's worth it. Find the time and learn about assigning the buttons and sliders on your controller through MIDI Learn. Learn about ACT, and/or the Cakewalk Generic Surface. It will make things easier for you when you know about these things and are able to use your R16 as a control surface in SONAR.
