Still having issues with MIDI playback in X1

Hey guys,
I am still having issues with MIDI notes being skipped while playing back in X1. I have raised my buffers as suggested and still no luck. I raised the MIDI buffers to 128, my Read and Write caching buffers are set to 500 as well. My interface is a profire 2626 and I even raised the buffers on the driver side.  Here is the strange thing.. Sonar 8.0PE has NO issues with playback at all and X1 has the same exact settings.

I can't for the life of me figure out why these notes are sometimes playing back, and sometimes skipping. I have no CPU spikes and running a beefed up machine. This is also after a fresh install of Windows 7 x64 bit. This is driving me nuts!

My system specs :
Intel quad core 930
ASUS P5D-N motherboard
6 GB Corsair ram
Profire 2626 audio interface
M-audio BX5a monitors and BX10 sub

If anyone has any suggestions.. please share.

Thanks

I wonder what MIDI-buffers you talk about? In 8.5PE the MIDI playback buffer (Options>Global>MMIDI) is 250 ms as default, and curing the skipped-MIDI-note-problem many have raised it over 500 ms.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

You need to follow a process of elimination. I've been using MIDI since before there was MIDI and I've never had a problem with skipping notes. Try the following and post your answers:

Are you using a real synth or a softsynth? If a real synth, check your cables and interface.
If a softsynth, is it particular to one softsynth?
If you change the track to a different softsynth or a different patch, are the notes skipped?
Are the notes skipped always the same notes or different?
Load Tutorial1.cwp, assign the tracks to the TTS-1. Do you get any skipped notes?

You should be able to figure it out based on these tests.

Do you have access to another MIDI interface?
If not, I'd pickup one from a local store... and see if it resolves the issue.
You can get a single port MIDI interface pretty cheap ($30-$40).

I am using a soft synth (battery 3) and there is no problems with it. There are no wires to correct as all the data is already in X1. The issue is play back. Like I mentioned.. there are no issues in 8.0 playing back, but the SAME exact project in X1 skips notes. All my settings are the same in the 2 programs. The place where I am changing buffer settings are under MIDI (play back and recording) and system exclusive is checked with 128 buffers(it cannot be raised higher then that). Also the playback under the same section is set to 500ms..and I upped that to 700 with no luck.

I just don't understand what X1 is doing differently then 8.0 when it comes to MIDI playback..

Are you running the latest version of Battery (3.1)?
Are you running the 32Bit or 64Bit Battery VSTi dll?
If you're running the 32Bit dll in the 64Bit version of Sonar, you might be having a 'bridging' related problem.
In that scenario, you have several options (use the 64Bit dll, use jBridge to bridge the 32Bit dll, use the 32Bit version of Sonar).  Makes the most sense to use the 64Bit version of the dll...

Does the problem only happen with battery?

Yes, Battery is the only soft synth I use. I am using a vst dll for battery 32bit. The scenarios are exactly the same from 8.0 and X1, however..X1 skips notes, 8.0 does not. Same project, same setup, same VST, same everything.

Not sure why it's happening with this platform. I'd prefer to use X1, but if 8.0 is what works, I may have to stay with that.

Are you running the 64Bit or 32Bit version of Sonar X1?
If you're running the 64Bit version of X1 (vs the 32Bit version of Sonar 8), that could explain the behavior/difference.
If you're running the 32Bit version of Sonar, then no bridging of plugins is involved.

If you're running the 64Bit version of Sonar X1, download the v3.1 update for battery.  It has a native 64Bit plugin dll.

I'm using the 32 bit version of X1 and the 32 bit version of Sonar 8.0. There isn't an issue with bridging, the notes play, just sometimes skip and sometimes don't. There is no systemic issue within the program that is being done differently from 8.0 as far as I can tell. Both bit rate is the same, project is the same, plugins are the same, every single thing is the same except the only difference is the inconsistent skipping of data (note skipping).  Is it possible the buffers need to be raised higher then 700 in the MIDI section?
Also, is it necessary to check the read / write caching boxes, or leave them at defaults?  I believe they are not checked by default, but I could be wrong.

You never answered Jim about the version of battery. It could make a difference because 8.0 is not X1b. Worth checking out.

I believe my version of Battery is 3.0.4, I'll have to double check that when I get home.

If that's the case, the first thing I'd do is download/install the v3.1 Battery update.

I am having the exact same problem with Sonar X2a. MIDI playback randomly skips notes whether in staff view or piano roll view. I have no controller or external interface attached to this computer. The computer is powerful (32GB Ram). It happens regardless of which soft synth I use. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't, sometimes on different notes from one playback to the next. Any help would be appreciated.

I checked with tech support. Apparently, in my case, the solution was to change the buffers to 1000. All working well now.
