Still in use....Sonar 8.5 and Project 5.2

And I will be using them for as long as my rig holds up. These 2 DAWs are my favorite composing tools even today with all these wonderful choices out there(which by the way I have afew others That aren't cakewalk). I want to personally thank Cakewalk for developing and creatimg some great DAWs over the years which are still my staple workhorses now and in the future.

Even though the end of the line has been announced be comforted to know that you won't be forgotten and your products will live on in most of my future work and compositions.

Once again a hearty Thank you to the Dev's staff and all who made my job more easier than anytime in my life.

KUDOS.

Wow, 18 pages back(in the mobile website) only after 2 days. I hate that I have to bump my own thread but I do want those who may be veiwing this forum to know how much I appreciate what they have done for me atleast.

They may be bummed or to busy trying to get on so I wish them( The Cakewalk Dev's and staff) the best. I'm Hoping some good will rise from the demise.

Alot of clambering going on now with searchs for new DAW solutions but it really is in my opinion better to not make any snap decisions even with all these fantastic sales going on now it's better to let the dust settle some than to be impulsive with so little info as to what may or may not be in the pipeline for Sonar, killed or resurected.

As with my original post even the obselsete isn't thrown out when it comes usability. .....even too those that scoff at poor version 8.5.

Thanks.....I even got a Bluegrass template for Project 5, I had a Banjo player write out the notation and planted the 5th string on open eigth notes. It took a lot of critical listening to tweak the sample, it was fun and I use it to show the awesomeness Project 5 is STILL capable of... Other then EDM.

I've done some R&B stuff in it.

I remember back in the day hearing things like "I'm a blues guy, I don't need a pattern based sequencer".   As if I-IV-V is not a pattern.

You know if Project 5 code was able to be sold I would be in line to purchase a license....alot of others would be too maybe get some Bitwigger's since they are already using the same program, fundamentally. I'm sure it's way ahead functionally so no jab intended.

Project 5(.2) forever and Sonar there in some form.

I was an 8.5 holdout for a long time, all the way through the X series and the first two years of SPlat. I finally came up to rev, not because 8.5 no longer did what I wanted, but because I felt left out of the conversation.

Looking back over the 8 years since 8.5's release, I'm having a hard time naming any critical feature that the current version offers that 8.5 didn't have. Certainly, there have been nice touches along the way. CPU load balancing, per-plugin oversampling, ARA. But none of those things actually enable me do anything today that I couldn't have easily done in 2009. Nor would any other DAW.

During those 8 years, Windows has undergone major changes. Windows 7 broke my Tranzport. Windows 8 broke my heart. Windows 10 has had its ups and downs, and I don't trust it from Tuesday to Tuesday, but SONAR 8.5 would still be fine with it. Will SPlat still be fully functional 8 years from now? Probably. In fact, probably 20 years from now. By 2027 I'll likely be on oxygen and eating through a straw, but I'll still be able to make a record with SONAR.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

One thing that makes me a little sick is the outsourcing of developement in the form of DAW's in general by American hardware manufacturers. Can't blame em for going for the best.

Germany is king when it comes to the audio software domain. That isn't a bad thing but it hurts when an American company goes down. The DAW market is shrinking every day though with more and more of the buying power is sucked in the latest must have phone App's.

The next step in the delivery music is probably going to be stems archived in a new compression format to allow consumers to mix there own version of released music by top artists in a player App approved by ASCAP or some other international intelectional property rights organization which will allow mixes to be shared or even sold with a fee attached as mechanical permission. My opinion but seems the next logical step in the phone App revolution.

If that becomes the case the DAW Desktop system would gain a little before the final nail is hammered being it is really the best platform to deliver stems in recording and editing end process.

I may be gone when it happens with the request to have my software cremated with me.....SONAR included.

Funny thing, for as advanced as Bitwig is supposed to be, it doesn't have track templates.

ASIO drivers for some newer interfaces won't work with 8.5 -  it's why I switched to Plat.
Other than that 8.5 was the peak, when SONAR was closest to being a pro application.
