Storing Sysex dumps in Sonar

Another topic I came across in the later chapters of Scott's book that makes me wonder how practical / save it is to use  ... compared to my current method of backing up external device settings using their build-in tools (which then makes backup files float about on various SD cards)
 
Are you guys allowing Sonar X1 to re-program your MIDI devices automatically via Sysex dumps upon opening a new project? Any pitfalls? Anything critical to know about?

     I don't use hardware devices that much anymore - but I used to. Sysex dumps are tiny - so storing them with a SONAR project makes lots of sense. Then when you want to go back to an old project (or change between multiple projects a lot) just fire up your SONAR project - and it sets up your MIDI h/w for you! EDIT - Of course you can save all your settings on a SD card too - in case something screws up ;-)

    I used sysx dumps all the time back when I used my Korg Triton for sounds. I never had any problems with the sysx dumps auto-loading whenever a project opened.

    I've never had any problems either, and it's one of the things I like about SONAR -- it's very easy to both store and recall SYSX dumps, and the autosend feature is very handy.
