Strange Metronome noice when echoing back - will not record - issues issues issues

The lastest saga with LE is that it is not only recording with the Condensor Mic that this software accompanied, but now a metronome type rhythmic noise is going non-stop on a new project I started.  Old projects I can open, but if I amend them, this noise returns.

I have taken hours to read all the set up and recording verbage in the help file.  I have read the trouble shooting.  I am displeased that there is no support for this software with a tech; it essentially means that this microphone was sold without recording software.  I had Powertracks before--much simpler to use.   So far after a month, I rate this software a 2 out of 10.

I will show great appreciation to anyone that informs me how to gain operational control of this software once again.

EDIT:   A few minutes after I typed this post, I notice that the 'clicking on windows' in Windows XP is feeding back--it eventually fades away after ten or so feedbacks.   Twilight Zone here.

Welcome to the forum.
So, is it the metronome? Have you tried turning it off?
I assume it's a USB microphone; what model is it?
What sound card or audio interface are you using?
What is your operating system and is it 32- or 64-bit?
Which version of SONAR LE is it? Six, 7, 8, X1?

Thank you 57 Gregy for the reply.

I ended up rebooting the computer---all the system sounds such as clicking with the mouse or the 'ta da' when rebooting fed-back repeatedly about eight times while fading away.   The reboot resolved this issue which was cause while attempting to record with Sonar.

To answer your questions:

(1) You must be clairvoyant for your assumption of the microphone being a USB plug in is correct!  The model of the microphone is the Samson 'G Track' sold by Sam Ash albeit it was 'discontinued' when I purchased it six weeks ago..

(2a)  I am using a SoundMax Digital Audio sound card. I believe this card soldered on to the motherboard i.e. not a PCI slot sound card.

(2b) The audio interface is built in to the microphone per the packaging.  The Sonar LE software CD came inside this box along with the microphone.

(3) The operating system on the computer is Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3 .  The processor is Intel(R) 2.79 GHz with 1.00 GB of RAM.  According to this website  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827218  I have a 32-bit operating system for the x64 is absent from the System/Properties/General tab

(4) The version is Sonar X1 LE (X1A Build 208)

No, not clairvoyant; that's just one of the things we like to know when helping folks with SONAR. USB  mics have a different procedure in getting them to work.
Okay, you should use the Samson for both recording and playback. It is an audio interface as well as a mic, as you have no doubt figured out by now. if you record with the mic and use the stock computer sound card there will be synchronization problems, since they are both sound cards. Each has it's own digital clock and they cannot be synched.
Any other questions, feel free to ask.

Actually, I do have another question.  For two hours I have been trying to get a WAV to MP3 converter.  Many sites my anti-virus balks at their downloads, and I cannot find an encoder on the cakewalk site.

I need to condense down WAV files.  I did so to a previous project to an MPEG Layer 3 a few weeks ago, but I am not longer able to do so.

Any ideas?

Thank you Strryder for the reply –
- and, indeed, TA-DA for the link to the cakewalk store where the MP3 encoder is offered for sale.

I am a bit miffed that the MP3 coding was not included with the program out of the box.  I suppose there is marketing research that shows that many purchasers of Cakewalk evidently do not need their WAVs crunched down to MP3.  At least the encoder is offered at a price that does not break the bank.

Regading recording with the Samson - I am now getting more productive recording with it.  Either I don't have a material clock/timing issue or I am not knowledgeable/aware enough to hear such an occurrence.

In fact, I love the 'arming a track' feature of Sonar.  The last garbage software I had [it was not a Cakewalk product] kept bouncing down the click track and previously recorded tracks into the currently recording track--maddening!

A feature I suppose that I wish I could take from the last software is the "Keep Take?  Y/N" inquiry button after recording a clip; seemingly, the clip is kept in memory and not etched to the hard-drive until the inquiry gets a "Y" from me.  A forefinger on "N" and with a small flicker on the screen, the Mulligan is granted.

I seldom get a part right in the first few recording attempts; hence a "K/T Y/N" button would save me having to grab the mouse, highlight the track, and press the keystrokes ALT/E/D.
