Strange activities the ghost of Sonar Platinum???
I don't want to be negative... 1. Platinum audio engine sounds incredible (on point) 2. A mix of Nomad, Addictive Drums, Rapture, Dimension Pro and other goodies 3. Technically it surpasses the x series Okay that out of the way... Either their are bugs in the system or Platinum is a haunted house no matter how many updates we get from CCC. It's still buggy as hell...Groove clips - open project - see groove clips - close project - reopen - groove clips magically disappear - close re open there again. Open a project - wait - wait - wait somethings happening - erm - wait open - Sonar rtexe sonar magically closes itself. Glitches - pops, crackles into action. Should be smooth as butter but its more like popcorn and a pneumatic drill going forward. Platinum has the potential to be the best incarnation ever from Cakewalk. If they get their heads around this and see what they have got in Platinum and step up to the mark we could push to say this is on par or better than Studio One. Every track I have made with Platinum has surpassed my previous work. However I have definitely noticed sonar working and spluttering along. Projects disappearing and re appearing...almost like magic they are gone again. Set preferences and they change themselves back to its default. Again its a brilliant product would I show it to my friends...not right now...I know the cakewalk team will get it right they have put so much effort into the forums but the forum engine shouldn't be the main engine that runs correctly it should be the audio engine in Platinum 64bit chugging like a 16bit Sinclair not in this day and age no way! Keep it up Bakers you have a wonderful product on your hands...it just needs more love!!!

Not my experience at all. Groove Clips could be a be a bug but everything else hints to an environmental / PC specific issue. If you give specific steps to repro from a blank project, and more specific info about your system we could help.

Hi. What kind of audio interface do you have, and do you have the latest drivers for it? The more info you give, the easier it is to troubleshoot Best of luck. Ps. SONAR is stable on my end.

Help us to help you Dappa. We don't know a thing about your system or your environment. If it were Sonar causing the problem, this board would be awash with complaints.

Well... I have no idea whether this is the same issue and I totally chalked it up to me being a dumbass but now I'm wondering if something that happened to me on a critical project recently has something to do with a Groove Clip bug. Essentially I was trying to stretch/slow something down because it was way too fast for me to play along with. So I thought I had been tracking at a slightly lower tempo (the intention was to speed it back up again and render). After... well a reeeeeal long time creating takes to (what I thought was) the slower tempo I went to speed it back up and lo and behold... I had been playing at the original tempo the whole time... even though the project tempo had indeed been slower. I thought (and probably did) I had fudged up somewhere along the way when doing the initial stretch but now after reading dappa's report... IDK. I had tested the whole procedure out beforehand to make sure it would work (and it did) but maybe the act of closing the project lost the stretching somehow. The end result was that when I sped the project back up my clips were in the wrong spot (which I corrected by dragging out the start of the clip to the 00:00:00 marker THEN changing tempo again... whatever, that's not important). Nothing sped up... but at least I was playing at full speed even though I INTENDED to be a lame arse Cheaty McCheaterson. Meh... if others are having problems with GrooveClips or whatever I'd definitely like to know. Cheers.

I certainly don't see any of your issues with Sonar Platinum. Most of the issues do sound like driver, buffer size problems. More information might help. One thing does bug me, though. What do you mean by "1. Platinum audio engine sounds incredible". I see a lot of talk about a particular DAW's "audio engine" sound. What exactly is this? I am not sure that there is such a thing, in this context. It is nonsensical. There isn't an "engine", as such, that affects sound. It's just ones and zeros.

Sorry but trust doesn't fix problems... Work it out, it's not happening on our systems what makes your system so perfect :) How would you know it isn't your system? There's clearly something going on isn't there? Let us help you troubleshoot your problem. Standard advice and maintenance first... Backup! 1) Get windows update up to date. 2) Keep your plugins on the latest versions. 3) Update your audio interface firmware and drivers to latest. Sometimes it's best to do complete driver removal before you upgrade. 4) Disable intel speedstep. 5) Goto intel driver update site. 6) Update your display drivers 7) Run chkdsk on your hard drives 9) See if it makes a difference running Sonar as admin. 10 ) Check you are running ASIO drivers in Sonar preferences. Make sure Sonar does not share out the driver. 11) Disable all sound devices in Windows control panel -> Sounds. 12) If you have ASIO4ALL installed remove it! 13) Temporarily disable your antivirus 14) Defrag. The tools that might help you troubleshoot your issue is: latencymon, process monitor and process explorer. If this does not make any difference on a new project or you need help please post more info about your system and more specific issue. See if you can rule out that it isn't a particular plugin.

Hi Doktor Avalanche, you mentioned to remove ASIO4ALL. Which ASIO would you recommend, and where can I get it?

ASIO driver for your audio interface. Please see point (3) above. What audio interface are you using? We need to know about your full system specs as everybody is saying here. See my signature for an example. Thanks..

Hi Doktor Avalanche, I'm using a Beringer Xenya 1202 USB mixer which just simply plugs directly via a USB port and to my knowledge doesn't require any driver (s) ?

Hi Dave. Check out the thread you posted. You are getting some good insights on your device. You may need to consider getting a new ASIO interface (for example I use a Focusrite Scarlett series unit and it is rock solid). But yeah... go check back in your thread. Cheers.

Are you sure you are not running ASIO4ALL? Anyway you are right no drivers required. Ouch. At this stage I complete agree with what Beepster says above, consider something like a Scarlett. Go through my checklist first though, 1 to 14 to see if it makes a difference. Thanks.

At risk of repeating myself again, please post your full system specs and check post #11/supply full feedback. Smart money is on the interface right now being substandard, but there isn't much more we can comment on until you supply feedback in much greater detail. We need to know the full picture. Thanks..
