Strange and Disturbing Sound

I have a high pitched "cricket like" sound on all playback - old and new. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Think you'll need to give much more information to the forum before anyone could help. Otherwise, my only suggestion is: Check your monitors for crickets?

I've been happily recording and listening for years. Today I imported an mp3 to put some sax over. While listening to the song I hear this high pitched chirp. It happens intermittently. 4 chirps then nothing then 6 chirps. I loaded a recent recording and the playback chirped. Recorded some vocals over a dub. playback chirped.

Any chance you might be using a demo version of a plugin or codec?
One of those could be a possible source of the "chirps"...

I too think it might be an unregistered plug in.

If you export the project, does the chirping get exported too?

I haven't downloaded any plug-ins that I know of. How do I get rid of it? Also, why did it just start happening yesterday?

Please forgive my lack of tech savvy. I play, and I listen.

I just pulled up TruePianos and when I played the "chirp" happened often. I downloaded that with the whole X2 package, and I registered everything.

updated both firmware and drivers on FF400. No sound from project followed in 2 minutes or so by BSOD. I've gone in 48 hours from fully functioning X2a too nada - very depressing.

Perhaps you should do a Windows Restore back to a time prior to the problem.

I'll give it a try. Guess I'll have to reinstall new drivers and firmware to FF400. Any thoughts on a different interface?

If you play something in media player does this also cause chirping?

I found with my Echo Layla 3G when it started making funny noises it was on the way out and would chirp and hiss randomly.

Hello. Try to reinstall the old drivers 3071 the Fireface forcibly and not automatically. I too have had this kind of problem with the Fireface UFX (But usb) and reverted to the old drivers I solved 1,029. Hello

Ps: it is obvious uninstall the current drivers and sofware audio card, preferably with computer in Safe Mode

You can post what he wrote when the PC crashes "BSOD"? Usually this problem is hardware and / or incompatible drivers or flaky, slow memory card pci sata cables fake. However try to post the words in the blue screen. is not a problem of Sonar X2. I do not exclude that starch could also be the video card and its drivers.

I read with more 'attention the post: "I've been happily recording and listening for years ......" and the post, "continued messing around and now everything has failed and I got the BSOD."
Makes me think of not exclude also do a good cleaning inside the pc especially to the heat sink (accumulation of dust inside the lamellae) and the CPU fan (which is not cooling the temperature rises too much, bad processes, and go into protection) this also leads to the blue screen. Hello

i have had the "chirping" issue, but with the Tascam us-122l & us-144 (only a problem w/ x64).  the only way i could get rid of it was by rebooting the pc or by unplugging the usb cable from the tascam device. just the other day i learned (maybe) that it isn't a driver problem, but a firmware problem w/ my device. i reverted back to a previous version of the firmware & i am still waiting for the "crickets" to reappear

I started hearing the chirping then updated both the firmware and driver. That is when I started crashing almost immediately upon opening X2. I am currently uninstalling FF400 and drivers. Will try to reinstall.

I took Daveny5's advice and system restored. Now everything is working, no chirping, and the FF is running the new driver and firmware.

Lastly, thanks for all the help. This is a great forum where folks with incredible technical knowledge and experience help those of us who (though we read manuals and watch countless tutorials) don't have a clue. I have no clue what happened or why system restore made "it" go away.
