Strange new problem
I have been using HS 7 for a couple of years now and have settled into a routine with it with no problems. I have even recorded my album which you can listen to here: http://garybruce.bandcamp.com/ However, recording today, a new problem has developed. What I play sounds fine with no latency issues, but when I play back the recording, the instruments are out of time with the drumbeat. The instruments are all in time with each other, but the drum isn't! This is the same on every song I try, old ones and new ones. This has never happened before and I haven't changed anything. So when I try to add a new part to an old song it just isn't in time! When I add a recorded part to a new song it isn't in time! And I haven't been at the sherry either! Has anybody else experienced this? I've looked through the help, but this deals with latency, and the live playing sounds fine, it's just the playback. Please help! Thank you.

we'll need more details on your system. what cpu/ram/operating system do you have? what soundcard(s) are you using? what mics? how do you have things connected? we need as many details as you can provide.

OK, let's see. The computer specs are. i7 870@2.93Ghz RAM 4GB 32 bit Windows 7 Using a UA25 EX sound card. Guitar to Boss GT8, then into the UA25 EX Even if I try straight into the UA25, there's still the delay on playback. There is no delay, when played and heard live, just the recording. But what I really don't understand is why after a couple of years of trouble free recording has this started to happen now, when I haven't changed anything? I've, tried the things suggested to speed up the computer, all other progs are off, defrag, hard drive, recorded tracks are frozen, dithering to none, but there is no improvement. Please help!

Oh, I forgot to mention that the problem is variable, eg, it's slightly out on each take, some are closer than others. I've tried adjusting the I/O size too, everything in the manual! Aghhhhhhh!!!!!

What sampling rate and bit depth is SONAR using and what sampling rate and bit depth is the audio interface using?

Thanks Greg, the sampling rate is 44100, and is the same on the Audio interface. T When I look at the audio window it tells me that the Driver bit depth is 16. I've run the wave profiler, so assume this is the correct setting. Any ideas? Thanks again. Gary

The driver mode was MME 32 bit, I've changed it to ASIO, and wow, that seems to have done the trick. I'm not getting my hopes up just yet but, I can't thank you enough!!!!

You should never use MME mode.

Thanks Greg, Dave and Beagle for leading me to the right answer. I figured out what happened, and just in case someone else has this problem it might help to explain. I did some experimental recording through a webcam mike (my music sounds like memories!), I guess that somehow to get it to work as it was plugged into the onboard soundcard the driver profile got switched (unknowingly!) in order to use the other soundcard. So both your guesses were right. I find I have problems when I use Skype, and I can see this is related. Thanks again for your help. I really would be lost without, the kind people on this forum. P.S. I like your music Greg. Cheers!

"I like your music Greg." Thanks. I kinda figured you were in MME when you wrote that you ran the Wave Profiler. There is no Wave Profiler button when using ASIO which would be the preferred driver mode for the UA. Have Fun!
