Struggling with reamping Line 6 Helix

Hello Sonar Gurus!

I'm having a devil of a time getting reamping to work the way I think it should.  I'm not a pro so I'm throwing myself on the mercy of the recording gods here for help.

I have a Line 6 Helix that has a USBx8 interface.  I'm able to record both my wet and dry signals to 2 separate tracks no problem, and I can get the dry track to play back through my Helix just fine.  The problem is actually recording the Helix signal during the reamp.  I tried bounce to track and that only gave be the dry signal back again.  The way Helix says to reamp is to set the input and output of the track to the same helix USB in/out and match it on the helix and that's the only way I can get it to playback.  Without an external mixer am I stuck here?

Thanks for your time!

Cheers
AJ

I have done this once only so I am going by memory.  When you output the signal from Cake to the Helix you make sure that the source for your patch includes the usb channel on which you are outputting the signal.  If you hear it play the effected signal as you play in the DAW then this should be good. Now, in another track you need to assign its input to the usb channel that is assigned as the output of the Helix.  You can check which channels are mapped to the output on the helix device, or helix edit.  Make sure it is either set to USB as the output or multi and then check which USB channels are on the output of the Helix.

You need to arm record the DAW track and then you should see a signal going into it if you have the input of the track correctly assigned to the Helix USB output.  I would double check the Helix User's manual again to make sure you understand which USB channels go where.  It can be a bit confusing.
