This is starting to sound suspiciously like a problem with UB's time machine!  It's no longer "Where am I?" but is now "When am I?"

i still think it has something to do with the good doktor suddenly appearing, as mentioned in my first post in this thread, i mean we all know they got on like a house on fire , and dear old alex did have a special knack for  getting under ones skin, mix all that with the good doktors post only existing now in quoted form, and mr stummers, well, 'special way of communicating'. it all happened around the same time, coincidence?

Time to make the forums great again?? Maybe build a firewall between the mods and the rest of the users?? Get Cake to pay for it?? Send a drone to "talk some sense" into Straummy?? The options seem limitless. Or not.

If he hasn't done something to deserve this, I'm sure one of the "hosts" like Wookie or Bit will fix it soon.........of course, it's already been a couple of days since Mr. Strummie has been given the boot.....

Staummy confirmed to me that he is NOT CakeAlex.

Now as far as Clarissa......... J/K.

AFAIK Straummy has only two logins and AFAIK Finnie McFinnigan (or whatevs that ID is) is NOT him.

Got an email from him this morning and he can't log in from ANY device, nor can he even see the forums except from one device that's using a different IP range.

It seems to me that his normal IP range has been completely blocked, but he hasn't had ANYONE contact him with a reason or to try and help get the ban removed.

Can any of the Mods please ask a Baker to look into this?

A complete (and, as far as he knows, permanent) ban without reason is flat out wrong and certainly not warranted from anything I have seen.

I had told the other hosts that I was not going to get involved with this thread, but I guess I will.

First of all, it was not a host who banned him, it was cake.
second of all, according to cake, he was told why he was banned, but of course cakewalk email could always be sent to a junk mail folder.
third - according to an email that I got from one of the bakers, he was only banned for a week and the reason on the ban was:   "multiple complaints RE: penis talk. 1 week ban

cake doesn't really need to explain themselves to anyone other than the one who was banned, and really they don't have to do that either.

it's not fair to demand answers from hosts on the actions of cake employees.  I only shared this because of all of the speculation and because some of you have said you were in contact with him and he didn't know why he was banned.

his ban should be up pretty soon, I don't know the exact date he was banned and we don't have access to his member information to find out.

I wonder if there have been any complaints at all about the forum member who has gone out of their way to mention or make constant innuendo about gay sex, and also post threads with religious and political content? (yes, I'm talking about you 'eph221')

These things don't offend me in the slightest, 'cos I'm a grown up (allegedly), but if there have been 'multiple complaints' about the use of the word 'penis', I would have thought they would have been all over that like a swarm of flies.

Seems a bit odd, especially as anyone with even a vague sense of humour could tell that Steve uses that word in an ironic manner, to parody the sometimes banal content in the CH.

I come from the school that if you frequently post stuff that might be considered "offensive" to some, then you are on thin ice. It's unfortunate, but it is what it is for a forum hosted by a business.

And the fact that other people might post arguably "worse" things is irrelevant. If CW thinks you are over the line it doesn't matter what they think of someone else.

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

You missed my point slightly Drew. What I'm saying is, that if sufficient people here found the word 'penis' so offensive that multiple complaints were made to Cakewalk, I'm just surprised that someone talking regularly about the subjects I mentioned didn't elicit the same response. It's the complainers that puzzle me, not Cakewalk. Cakewalk can do what they see fit, of course, it's their forum.

Personally, I don't get easily 'offended', I don't rate terminology by degrees of offensiveness, and am again surprised that the correct anatomical name for the male reproductive organ causes 'offense' to other people.

We agree completely.

I'm mostly concerned that encouraging the thinking that a time out like this is unfair, unjustified and arguing about how and where the lines are drawn and such is a recipe for getting a lifetime ban.

Yep. I'll have to conclude that if the complainers actually read the other stuff, they must have fainted with shock before they could hit the report abuse button.

Thanks Beagle!  As a senior admin at another forum, I'm quite familiar with dealing with bans, etc.  In this case, Steve claims (and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have any issue taking responsibility) that he neither received notice or reason for his ban.  Now he knows and he's accepted it.  Ironically, in addition to its use as a parody, he began by asking "Can I say ***** in this forum?"  Would have been a good time for someone (anyone) to just say "No." instead of not responding which leaves the impression that it's ok.

Whatever.  I've got to prepare to move in a week and I might have just found a house where the owner is a musician (with several VERY nice guitars)!  So I'm off to work on that.

As you point out there are many things that go on which a lot of users (including hosts, especially in a forum as large as this one) know nothing about.  And as has been pointed out, things are never "even" in the world of moderation.

Not long after I became a host, I was reprimanded by cake for my involvement in Coffee House threads with "toilet humor."  I was asked to remove my posts which had said toilet humor in them.

Probably a lot of us would think toilet humor would not be cause for anyone to take offense, however, it offended someone so much that he (maybe she, IDK for certain, but I have a very strong suspicion who did it) emailed Henry Juszkiewicz (CEO of Gibson) and complained about said potty humor in the forum which belongs wholly to Gibson.  Apparently Henry himself did read said email and flowed down the directive that his company will not have such inappropriateness in something which represents his company (I am not complaining about the consequences, the company or anything involving this situation - I'm merely stating facts).

If toilet humor can offend someone enough to email the CEO of Gibson and get real verifiable ACTION, then "penis talk" getting someone banned for a week should not surprise anyone.

I am 99.9% certain none of you here today knew about this (including the hosts).  It is very likely that the person who "turned me in" won't even read this because I haven't seen the person I suspect did that on these forums in a long time.

but this is also ONE of the reasons I don't participate in the Coffee House humor as much as I used to in the past.

I hate complainers. I've always believed that people consciously choose to be offended by things because they're addicted to the feeling of moral superiority it gives them. These perpetually aggrieved people are far more harmful to society than the people they claim to be offended by.
