Studio Instruments and Music Creator 5

I am unable to record any of the Studio Instruments using Music Creator 5, I can listen to them if I put them in loop on their individual property window. I assumed that once I added them as a track that I would be able to record them as a track, but this is not the case.  For instance, I'll go to the add a track button and go thru the menu pop-ups until I get to Studio Instruments and then I'll select drums. The property window opens and I've tried to check uncheck varies items with no luck when I try to record. I record ready the device and hit recordbut nothing is recorded.
I need some help with this issue.

The UI of the studio instruments VSTs are kind of funky.

When you are looking at the window for the instrument, you have a lot of buttons to push, etc.  Mostly all they do is preview, or loop through a preview, and none of that will actually show up in a track.  That is if you select a loop/pattern in the VST window and click the play button, all you are doing is previewing that loop, none of the sound actually goes anywhere in your project(I use Home Studio 7XL, but the principle should be the same for music creator.)

You need to actually get MIDI data into the track to get it to make noise in your project.  You can drag the patterns displayed into your project in Sonar, I don't know if you can in Music Creator, but I would think the drag and drop capability is there too.  I don't know if Music Creator has a bunch of stock MIDI patterns like Sonar does, but if you can find them, they should be able to drive the various plugins in SI just fine (your mileage with MIDI drum loops may vary).

Find a drum pattern you want then click on it and hold down the mouse and drag to your open track. Then you can expand the drum track for as many measures as you want. I'm very disappointed in the overall drum choices available. There really aren't very many. You can also open up staff view and make a drum beat with one "note" at a time.
