Studio or Essential for Drums?

Hi,
I'm looking to use Sonar solely for the purpose of recording and mixing drums.
I'd therefore need some decent default compression effects etc.
Which would be better, Studio or Essential?
Cheers.

    You mean like real drums?

How do you feel about automated Multi Track beat detection?

Will show you some comparisons as far as features and inclusions.  I use X1 Studio, and I've been doing live drums for a few weeks now.  I've only used the t-64 shaper and sonitus effects and have gotten good results.  I actually experimented with replacing kick drums with MIDI synths and that works well also.  I'm not sure, but I think if it's a choice between Essential and Studio, I would go with Studio.

    Thanks.
Real drums indeed! Haven't had much experience with automated Multitrack beat detection, but it's not an essential feature for me. I'd hope my playing to a click is generally good enough not to need it.
As the T and Sonitus effects are only on the Studio version, sounds like it might be best to go with that.

If you can -  go ahead and get the producer edition. Lots more plugins - percussion strip etc. ProChannel compression and eq - very useful on O Heads.

Only for recording drums? What are the recordings used for?
I would choose a cheaper recording program, like MC or Reaper  and buy one nice VST-FX set, or Ozone4. How about Sound Forge, it can do multitrack as well. can it not?? Excellent audio editor.

My point being: If the use will be extremely limited, I'd keep everything as simple as possible.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

Agree with both Drumr and Mike.  If Producer is a possibility, then go for the gold!

I'm actually going to upgrade to Producer fairly soon.. the initial price hit was a bit much to swallow at first, because I had no experience or past versions of Sonar.  Now, I wish I had it!

I always recommend Producer (even to people starting out) because they almost always eventually want to have access to the extra features.
