Studio tracks versus their original demos

Down By The Borderline by Little Feat has always been one of my favorite tracks. I love it. Such fantastic musicianship:
 

 
So I was fascinated to run across this apparent Lowell George demo of the song: 
 



It really goes to show just how much tracks evolve from their inception. You can still hear elements of the guitar riffs in there but boy, that demo is almost unrecognizable as the song. And that 70's drum machine lol! I'd love to know what that was.
