Studioverb 2 doesn't work in Sonar 64bit?
I really like studioverb but it doesn't appear when running Sonar 8.5 64bit. Am I alone in having this problem? Any ideas? Thanks in advance. I love Sonar

Bet he wishes he would have seen this list before jumping in the 64bit arena eh? I know I wish I would have. :) Vastman ... You can install the 32 and 64 bit version of Sonar on Vista 64bit/Windows 7 64bit. You can have both installed at the same time if you'd like so you can switch back and forth between them. Using the 32bit install should fix your Studioverb problem. Good luck. Shane

You need to find out the pro's and cons and make an educated decision on if you should go to a 64bit Windows. Im still using a 32bit windows because the cons out wat my pros right now. Cj

Well, I don't regret the move... just was hoping there is a work around... Thanks for letting me know there isn't!

Actually, there's a work-around. It involves wrapping those 32 bit DirectX plugs in a DX/VST container. This way they are treated as normal VSTs/VSTis and can then be used in Sonar 64 bit via BitBridge. I've never used it myself, but I believe this is the one some people use: [Sorry, wrong link] EDIT: To remove erroneous link.

Jose, that is the reverse of what is required... VST-DX Wrapper is a DirectX audio plugin that allows you to use VST audio plugins in applications which support only DirectX, such as Sonic Foundry's SoundForge, Vegas Pro and Acid, CakeWalk Pro Audio etc. It makes your VST appear as a DX so it will work in Cakewalk Pro Audio... It's from back in the Good ol' Dayz when only Cubase understood VST...

Ooops! You're right Karyn. Thanks for pointing that out. Hopefully, someone will chime in with the correct wrapper. I'll delete the link from my previous posts as to not misguide anyone. Take care!

I'm sure I've seen a DX->VST wrapper, but can't think where... Edit to add: The simple answer is that there are plenty of free reverbs that do work in x64 Sonar that also sound a lot better than Studioverb...

There are a couple of DX->VST wrappers out there. Unfortunately, they don't work with Studioverb 2 because it's tied to Sonar. The plugin looks to make sure it's running inside of Sonar and the wrappers make it think that it isn't so it will fail to load. For reference, some of the wrappers are: Acon Effect Chainer DxShell FFX-4 I think Effect Chainer is the simplest one, but again, it doesn't work with Studioverb 2.

there are plenty of free reverbs that do work in x64 Sonar that also sound a lot better than Studioverb Can you list some? I've found that the Studioverb is actually pretty good. And a lot better than most (all?) of the free ones out there. I've found that the free algorithmic ones range from awful to barely acceptable. I don't include free convolution plugins in that, since they're as good (or bad) as the impulses you feed them and thus can potentially be excellent. But I prefer my Lexicon PCM96 for algorithmic verbs and Pristine Space for convolution.

Isn't BitBridge (included in SONAR Producer) what is needed to run a 32bit plugin with 64bit SONAR?

techead Isn't BitBridge (included in SONAR Producer) what is needed to run a 32bit plugin with 64bit SONAR? Yes, and No. Only 32 bit VST/VSTi plugins can be run inside of BitBridge. 32 bit DX/DXi are not supported as outlined in the Cakewalk link I posted earlier.

(I realize that this thread is old but it is still my issue) I am using X1 Producer Expanded on Win7-64. I had to do a 64-bit X1 install (second try) to use V-Vocal without crashing. But of course I lost Studioverb2, which I like better than anything else out there. All I really have available now is sonitus:fx reverb. I've written down all the preset parameters from Studioverb, and in theory it should be possible to set the equivalents in some other reverb, but the translation is not obvious (and I'm an engineer). Has anyone done it? I really wish there were a new Studioverb2... Maybe I'll try to write a working wrapper.

Studioverb 2 (which is the same as Cakewalk FXReverb) is DOA in 64-bit. It was one of my favorite reverbs as well. It's ability to create nicely modulated reverb tails is what made it sound so great. You should really look into Valhalla Room. It's the best $50 you'll spend this year. You can download the demo here : http://www.valhalladsp.com/valhallaroom
