That's good stuff Steve, liking all the guitar tones and licks and the way you play with the delay on the break. I think the upfront, slightly dry vocal works well for the first verse but seems to need to spread out and get bigger as the song goes on, it gets a little drowned by the fullness of the backing. Reminded me of Tom Cochrane, who I haven't listened to in years.

Vocals are by far the hardest for me. I listen to the mix with a LSR system with sub, NS10's, and calibrated AT MH50 phones. The vocal has pro channel Quad EQ, CA2A, console emulator,S Type. The effects bin has Nectar breath controller, and vocal rider. I'm using a Reverberator with Bricasti ir's for reverb. This was the third final mix. The first two had more reverb. I guess my general approach is to mix the reverb so that it is barely audible. Thanks for the feedback, I'm going to look at the reverb in that tune...

Steve, Cool song, like the overall sound. To me, the LVox seem disjointed from the backing track in mix clarity. The LV are super-present and clear, which in contrast with the rest of the track, makes the drums and bass sound a little muddy. The arrangement and instrumentation is spot on, I think you just have some minor mix tweaks to dial it in.
Regards

Mark, Thank you for the comments. Interestingly enough, I have spent a bit of time trying to make the vocal very clear. Perhaps I went to far.. I'm back on the premaster tracks now. I remixed the lead vocal a bit, adding a tad more reverb and changing to the Neve. Will try more after wife and I get back from the movies!

This moves really nicely. Any established Country Artist could take this and run with it. Good song writing!

Like the others I find the vocals suffer from the backing a little as the song progresses but the overall production is good, thanks for sharing.

Keep on keepin on Man! You got it going on here! I like what I am hearing, and it reminds me of me sometimes. Mix wise It's all in the EQ's, and running everything to a BUS is not always the greatest of ideas. I say this as someone learning myself. Enjoyed hearing this one, as for the sing part, I'm no singer either. But I wanted to tell you, practice saying AH, OH, and UH and EH, and if you play scales on the guitar do that along with each note and it will help you on your voice. LOL, believe me I am no expert. I know how to sing it, I just don't have the voice. Good stuff man! Thanks for sharing! Enjoyed hearing this!

Very nice. I liked it. I have listened to some of your other recordings as well and I think you are talented. I also think that the mixing is right... at least to me. Unfortunately I am not good at mixing.

Nice song... catchy chorus and a solid arrangement. As per the comments above, if you can get the vocal track to "sit" better against (or on top of) the music it should be good to go. Loved the pedal steel touches BTW.

Thanks to all.... I have spent a lot of time on a remix of this song now. It is still not quite ready. I got tied up working on a Christian artist CD... (can't turn down studio gigs). Just finished that and leaving in our rv/ bus for a week of rest. Will revisit this with fresh ears then..
