Sudden constant crashes.

  Hello, I am at my whit's end with this one. Everything was working great until I suddenly crashed today and now Sonar will no longer play back any of my projects for more than a few seconds. It just went kaput and I'm at a stand still until I get it figured out. I'm running Sonar X1 Producer Expanded (64 bit) on a Windows 7 Professional 64 bit system using a firewire audio interface (Focusrite Saffire pro 40). I've searched the forums ad naseum but they all just fizzle out into "it must be a plugin you're running doesn't get along well with bitbridge" but that doesn't make any sense in my case. I'm not using any new plugins that I don't use every day and it even crashes on projects that aren't using any 32 bit plugins. Here's what I've tried: - Rebooted windows multiple times - Attempted to narrow it down to a specific plugin (unsuccessfully) - Completely uninstalled Sonar and reinstalled from scratch (no joy) - Power cycled audio interface... unplugged audio interface from firewire and powersource (no change) - Updated audio interface drivers - Performed windows system restore to a point yesterday where things were working fine Is there anything else I can try? This kind of stuff destroys my creativity. On an unrelated note... any tips on how to retain formatting on this forum? Thanks!

  I appreciate the response but that doesn't work. It says that DEP exceptions cannot be made for 64bit applications. Thanks anyway!

  Everything works fine except for Sonar, including demanding PC games. Interestingly enough I tested the projects in an existing installation of Sonar 8.5 and got the same result. I'm thinking of starting over with a clean installation of Windows, something obviously got corrupted. There is at most a 1% chance the issue is hardware related in any way.

I Just want to make sure that this happens to any newly created project (not a saved version of the one that its happening to)? 
 
We need to make sure you ruled out corrupted project file.
 
You said you did a system restore.  That may not be the answer. 
 
System Restore is a windows update thing to have a safety backup if they screw up an update. I don't connect to the internet for this reason so I don't need System Restore active.
 
You will need to look at a System Image backup (from when things were right)  with a full reformat to eliminate your operating system and Sonar.  Just make sure you back up all your projects and other important data onto another drive.
 
I know this seems drastic but for me it is the fastest way to get to the bottom when you have this kind of trouble.

A few months ago, I was getting some strange behavior similar to this. turns out I had a external drive which failed. All of the computer programs worked fine because all of that data was on the machine. It would play/record for a few minutes and then erro screen after error screen.  Finally realized it was the external drive.  I also realized you should NEVER set your external hard frive on top of a speaker, even for one moment!! Thank goodness i had most of that data backed up!  Not sure if this information helps or not.  Hope you get it figured out!
