Sudden new strange behavior in X2 Producer

Very strange goings on last night in X2. Some of the things that occurred, most intermittently.
1. Playback not starting after hitting space bar.
2. Vertical "now time" line not appearing, the cursor at the top was, just not the line.
3. Record light in control bar and folder not lighting up during record, even though track was armed and I hit "R".
4. And the ever present sudden crash and have to shut down the whole computer to kill Sonar in the task manager.

I'm running Win 7 64 with Sonar x2 64 with a 8 core machine with 4 hard drives, latest service packs etc., so there's plenty of power. Any ideas?

Does it happen with all your Sonar projects? If no, It sounds like you have a corrupt project. Open your back up and see if it behaves the same. If you failed to do a back up (naughty naughty), then export each track and import them into a brand new project.

This may well be caused by one or more 32-bit plugins being present, where they are not playing nicely through BitBridge in Sonar.

For the project where you are having these issues, try loading it in safe mode and do not load any plugins, and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, you could load the project as normally done and hit the letter 'E' on your computer keyboard, which will toggle off/on all effects.

If your project plays properly with the above, then it would point to an issue with one or more of your plugins, and you would have to go through the process of figuring out which plugins are causing these problems.

The hanging tasks are quite common when there are 32-bit plugin problems in a 64-bit Sonar installation.

Thanks all. It only happens on this project. I'll try deleting plugins 1 at a time to see if I can find the culprit. I wonder if P-Tools people have these issues....

I keep seeing the same threads over and over in each of the DAW manufacturers websites. I say same and of course they are not exactly the same but generally along the lines of: "<INSERT DAW NAME HERE> crashes with dropouts and scratchy sounds. <INSERT DAW NAME HERE> sux I'm not going to pay for another upgrade until they fix this version." And so on and so forth. It really is quite amazing.

Bob has some good advice up above. Hope you get it straightened around. Here's a good bit of advice I was told once: "It's not random, you're just not seeing the pattern."
