Suggestions: X1 soft synth sounds for Halloween effects?
I was hoping to put together several loops of 'creepy' music/sounds for Halloween using Rapture or one of the other soft synths that came with X1 Studio. I'm not a keyboard player, so I'm limited in my abilities, and I just want to get something down to put on a CD that gives that haunted house sound while I hand out candy to the kids. If you have suggestions for (1) synth and (2) sound in the synth package in that synth to try, please post. I'll put something together, but with all the possibilities in some of the synths, I'm spending more time auditioning than I want. Best wishes, Bob

I have an idea for you...call my x-wife up and have her record her witch's hideous laugh for you. It not only sounds authentic...it IS authentic. Believe me. A Google search for creepy sounds, halloween sounds, with laughing sounds and whatever you can think of should provide you with plenty of raw material. Then use Rapture or ? to taste. Don't forget thunder, rain, wind and creaky door sounds. It's all good. Dub

No way anyone can top the above. However CW was giving away Haunted EDM for Rapture awhile back. You can get them from the CW store. I did a search and could not find it.

I fired up Dim Pro and the following are JUST the beginning of the 01-Dimensions section. You'll get "traditional" sounds (clanks and such), but remember that lots of sounds can be spooky because they sound like "Alien" or "Halloween" or "Blade Runner" or your Ex's voice or whatever. Think outside the coffin! Anyway, they're all here, and I just got up to "G" and got tired. (Although it's always fun to audition the great sounds in Dim Pro and Rapture.) Dimension Pro- 01 Dimensions Alien Force, use chromatic key changes Alien Piano 3 Amorphous (turn off element 1?) Antarctica (wind noises) As you wish (do staccato 'psycho' stabs) B4rdOK Noise Brasses from Hell (use elements 1 and 4 only) Built-in Mamooth Cathedral 3, play diminished chords or Bach toccata in D Chimery Close to Origin, play tri-tones Cosmic Winds (Blasted Heath - "I am more sinned against than sinning!") Dark City Death Sentence Chimes, this'll freak everybody out, play a long spaced LOW note (and don't ask for whom it tolls) Devil Flute/Devil's Flute is, surprisingly, not so recommend. More shrill, not so devilish Dimensional Brain 3, find the right chords Dispossessed = DOOM! Distant Boom, put these on top of held down notes of Winnowing Machine, "Incoming!" Distorted Perception, perhaps Distractive Buzz, swarm of killer bees? Diva on mw, sort of theriminy, play the Dies Arae melody and go wild with the mod wheel Dubious 1 and 2, good hits, put them on top of one of these other patches Dynamic Cylinder, your basic "Klatuu barada nikto" Earth & Mars Orchestra, good cinematic stings Earth Core, hold down chords Enigmatic Voices, hold low chords and play dissonant highs Expression of Misery, change the AMP envelope to fade in Extraterrestrial Meeting 1/2/3, put them all together and freak out the neighborhood dogs Far Far Away, actually element 3 is all you need Fear of Flying, changed my mind, put Distant Boom on top of this instead Feel Noises, turn off element 1, play low and high notes Fluorescent Windchimes Foreign Experience, hold lows and ping the highs Fragments from a wreck, diminished chords Frightening Place 1/2, duh! Getting Close, hold chords for five seconds and release Ghost ships, play chords

jazzwombat, I thought it was pretty good for ambient Halloween sounds. What did you end up using to make all those sounds?

Yes it does. I'm picturing strategically placed lights and decorations to complete the scene. Maybe silhouettes in the windows. Have fun!
