Sunset Park

Hi Everyone,
Apologies for not listening and commenting on the music recently. I have been very busy with work and also with my choir this time of year.

Anyway listening to the hammering of the rain on the window made me yearn for those nice warm summer nights and so I came up with this track.

Enjoy

This is a very good song. Mix is also good I believe. This is one music style I would like to master, although I don't know what style it is. Well done.

    Thanks chaps, appreciate the comments.

kakku - I have been told that the style is ambient/chill, but personally I am not fussed what style it's called as long as people like it.

You've got that strange background music thing going on here. I like it, could never do this, but appreciate it. Good mix, good sounds and some nice little themes in there. Good job.

Some nice work in there Adrian. Mix is good. As Dan says, it all holds together well. Like the way you come back to the main theme after a brief stray to a different section. Would've liked a bit more work on the transitions, they seemed a little abrupt for this style. Just a thought on first listen. Wouldn't go astray on a Pink Floyd album.

Whatever you are using for reverb, it's pretty killer. Your mix is super clear and the elements come and go without getting boring.

I'd love to know what your reverb plug-in is - it sounds pretty hi-rez on my system.

    excellent job!

Thanks for the comments, I am truly humbled by them.

emeraldsoul - The reverb is the Space Pro Channel module that came with the Lexington release. I seem to be using this more and more on my master bus just to help gel the mix together. The dial is only turned up about 20 - 25% but seems enough for most situations.

All the best to everyone for the New Year.

Wow, excellent track. Love the production of this. Sounds choices are perfect for the melodies, and that transition at 0:56 made me laugh out loud, it was so good. Cool breakdown as well, you really thought this through.

Very Cool mix.  Love the use of the ambient pads ....  With all those frequencies happening, the bass gets a little washed out. It's there in strength so not sure how to firm it up? Perhaps a little less reverb would help? Not a biggie, though!

This is very pleasant with a lot of texture and lovely, ambient sounds.  Overall, I felt that I could predict most of the changes, but this style of music is kinda that way.  I'd like to hear this style of music done with a chord progression other than minor6th-5th-4th repeated over and over.  However, I'm guilty of using that progression over and over myself.  It may be that I'm out of sync on this, so take it with a grain of salt.

    All the best,
    Lynn

It's a fair comment Lynn and apart from one section that has an 8 bar chord progression the tune is really built on those three chords. I think we as musicians can all be guilty of reaching for the tried and tested comfort blanket without realising it.

I am hoping to dust off my old music theory books this year and get my head back into classical harmony once I get this exam for work out of the way

Sounds pretty good here - clear and punchy mix.   The lead tone translates well IMO, I also like the arps coming in and out.   That little "clickety" rise that leads into the next section a few times is really cool - nice touch.
