Superb freeware EQ, from Mildon Studios, a must have EQ.
Finally i found a superb freeware EQ, and i have tested loads of em.But this one beats all of em, with a nice GUI, and simple to use.
I Bought the Fabfilter pro Q earlier to use for my editing.
I have an Acc guitar track that sound's terrible. I spendt like 20 minutes with Fabfilter Pro Q to, try getting the Acc guitar sound decent, but did not get satisfied !
And here, i came across an freeware EQ from " Mildon Studios " ! I use it on the track, takes me 2 minutes, and The Acc guitar sounds great !! Woooot !!, finally after searching for more or less 1 year and testing load's of EQ's, i finally find one that really work.
this one: http://www.mildonstudios.com/products.php?item=30bandeq
IMHO, i think this beat the Fabfilter pro , at getting the sound pretty fast, it is not as surgical But still.
Now i can finally Chill out, peace.
Sorry for posting this here, but just had too ;-)

I'm not disputing that it might be a great EQ (and I will check it out) but to rank it higher than the FabFilter EQ based on one case scenario seems a little premature.

Yeah i can agree to that in a way ! Of course i need to chk it on other tracks i have too, i just came across this EQ, so i have not tested it fully atm But for the first check it amazed me, on the Acc Gtr track.
The Fabfilter Pro Q, has its good sides on cutting frequencies at a surgical lvl but soundwise it is very " Digital " , meaning you do not get, any character out of it in any way. And for me, it can be a bit " Lifeless " ,that is just my opinion so far. And of course it was designed to do so.
I asked in the forum on Fabfilter if they could, add an Analog mode to it and they answered:
Hi Jan,Thanks for your feedback. FabFilter Pro-Q is meant to be a transparent EQ, but we do agree that a coloring EQ might be a great addition to our plugin collection in the future.Cheers,Frederik (FabFilter) - Jun 27, 2013

if it works for you then thats all that matters, its not ment to be surgical, those 30 band eq's have fixed frequencies and bandwidth

Everyone has a defenition of hearing sound, as well what they learn, as they get more experienced working with sound as time goes by, it is a learning curve and also to experience what happens and know where to dig right in to adjust the frequencies.
Calling it : " premature " , well maybe it is, by trying it on 1 track only before posting it ! But it tells me a lot, sitting with the Fabfilter Pro Q for 15- to 20 min's on a single track to try getting the track sound good, and it just get half way there !
Then use this EQ 2 mins, and the sound is all in place !
I quote: i think this beat the Fabfilter pro , at getting the sound pretty fast, it is not as surgical But still.
I did not say it was better.
All i wanted was to share a good EQ, and a free one too ;-)

you might not want to do that, some of them are pretty good, like variety of sound, son EQ , melda free eq and so on

Yes i have used all of em, thanks for your concern ;-)
All i keept was the: NastyLF, from variety of sound. you can't find it there anymore. You can get it from here : http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?id=666 ( Thrillseeker XTC from variety of sound is a great produkt too ).
I also have all the Sonimus products. They will also come with a new Pro EQ and uppgraded Consoles soon.
For lvl adjustment i use the, Sonalksis Free G
For Limiter i use Eventhorizon by stillwell audio.
From Meldaproduction, i only use the MCompressor. A great Compressor.

co--sign on what Chregg said. Like compressors , eqs often have different qualities that are hard to put into words but "you know it when you hear it". I don't think there is a one size fits all when it comes to eq's though it is certainly possible to get by with just one or two (one for surgical and one for coloring if needed). Consider the things you liked about those other eqs and determine whether your new toy can do everything that you may have liked about the others before ditching it. Also make sure you have not forgotten about some old project using the old plugins.

I have almost everything from Mildon. I think his stuff is really quite good - and cheap. Some things are like $3 & $6. I don't even have to try this first to know that it will be good. Sometimes clean & simple is the way to go, which all his stuff is.

Thanks, i do not have any projects now, im just an happy amateur and atm working hard on hearing and learning about sound. Testing loads of Plugins and listening is mostly what i do for a while now.
Yes you are absolute right that, every plugin has it's own character and it is a real pain to find what suits my ears ;-) I do not think i will find any " perfect" plugin any time, but atleast i can come pretty close then. Most important is that the person who is mixing is satisfied with the product he/she uses.
Im still looking for the Ultimate analog coloring EQ, atleast for my ears ;-)
The EQ is the most important main tool for any Sound Engineer. If i just should had one type of plugin, it would be an EQ.

"The EQ is the most important main tool for any Sound Engineer." its one of the most important tools, compressors are as equally important, then there's reverbs and everything else

Ahh .. the new IT plugin that does it all, yes i heard all about that one.EQ, compressor, limiter and tuning like melodyne, if you want to change the tuning of the audio. You choose the style of music on the menu tab and on the Instrument tab select proper instrumentand just push the " Analyze " button and wait 1 minute for it to adjust the best mix suited for that that track ;-)
Ofc, this is just a fantasy ;-)

Whatever works for ya, soundblend. But to suggest that any graphic equalizer is a suitable replacement for a good parametric is a little naive. As for me, gimme me surgical every time - when it comes to sound sculpting I'd rather have a scalpel than a chainsaw.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

I did not say it was an replacement for a parametric EQ at all, i love those too, what's the big deal about this! Ohh just another cheap free EQ again ? , well this EQ do deliver and it's sound is good. I have now tried it quick, on several track's and it work pretty well on those too.
Will continiue to test it more in depth, but so far so good. for me an EQ need to be open and clean, and " very important " to keep the characteristic's and vibe of the original sound. I'm not forcing anybody to use it, just take it or leave it, can it be that hard ! Use whatever you think it's best for you, and then you will be happy, and me too. this is a " free " plugin, it's not like you have to pay loads of $$ for it.
And if i need a real tiny surgical cut, i have the Fabfilter pro Q. No big deal..
Anyway the link is in the first post, if anyone wanna try it out.
To mutch testing and posting today, now its almost morning here, so bedtime for me. Happy mixing ;-)
