Superior Drummer 3

I have SD2 is it worth the upgrade to SD3?

Wookiee, I don't have SD. I use EZD.

But everything I have seen people say about SD3 is it's the best version of the app yet. Worth getting the demo and looking it over, but...... they don't have a demo that I could find.

Wookie, I just got SD3 myself and have started using it in a few projects.  It's pretty awesome.  I have SD2, as well, so I can say that SD3 is better because the samples sound that good.  It's internal mixer is good enough that I can use only one track of SD3 to mix the whole kit in CW rather than a separate instantiation for each drum, saving space on my monitor.  There are plenty of new kits and drum style which I can't wait to explore.  With your furry ears, I know you'll take it to another level altogether.

    All the best,

For me, it was. Mainly because I had never bought any expansion kits for SD2, so the upgrade effectively gave me the equivalent of every SDX and then some. There were some minor features that also added value, such as the ability to hide unused channels in the mixer, and the expanded suite of effects.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I like SD3 better in every way. Toontrack also keeps improving it. The groove editor is awesome, better than Cubase drum grid. Resizable window, song builder options, and general eye candy is great.

Thank you all Gentlemen I really appreciate your input and thoughts.  Lets see what the cost of the repairs to my V40's Tailgate lock cost and I might well take the leap.

(For those enquiring minds I can not open the tailgate, apparently the seal has broken and jammed the lock, they have repaired it so it now works with the remote but not the key so it might need a new lock )

100% - since i upgraded from SD2 to SD3 I don't use anything else - and I have Addictive 2, slate, BDF Echo, NI Stuff, hardware drum machines even - they all now seem redundant
I also got the Progressive Foundry SDX, a superb expansion.
I have just reprogrammed all the drums to SD3 (which is incredibly easy I should add thanks to the way you can specify input midi in SD3)  on the new project we are working on and I think it has made a massive difference - just love it!

Got a deal on Superior Drummer 3 and boy is this thing awesome. Having its own mixer is just incredible. Was using AD2 but don't think I ever will again. Also any midi tracks that were done in AD2 were easily transferred to SD3.  Well worth the price as you get like 7 kits with it and some really good presets.

Well, SD3 is great but its musical strengths are more organic. Real drums in real spaces. There are some processed kits and such but I dunno how great they are. "Experimental" kits - not so awesome to my ears.

If I were primarily producing the synth-based '80's space music that so gracefully emanates from your furry paws, I don't think SD3 would be a huge priority. But if you are venturing into other, more organic universes, like singer-songwriter stuff, you can't go wrong with SD3.

just a devil's advocate thought for ya.

    cheers,

The only regrettable part of this thread is that there is no companion thread in the Deals forum. Where’s the holiday sale? Instead we’re told to upgrade by 12/31 at the regular upgrade price, because after that date, there will be no upgrade path at all. Al that is missing is “Bah Humbug”!

it's hard to explain in just a short paragraph,
    the intensity of this program.

i found this vid, which is about the best overview i've seen of what the program can do.

i blindly dove into it, and found a lot, but still that was only about 25% of it's capability.

Did he also stop getting drunk, turning up late and continually trying to get off with any female they might venture near his drum kit

I finally caved and bought the Best Service $162 2-3 update deal. After being able to use a few bucks from my credits, and getting the surprisingly nice HOF reverb free with it -not a bad deal at all. A great update....but I will not soon forget the 12/31/18 ultimatum.
