Superior Drummer Copy and paste problem in PRV

Hi all

Hope you can help me on this its got me going crazy

Ive used superior with the addons for arround 6 months now and ran in to this problem a couple of times but it now has me anoyed and think its about time I figure out why its happening

Ok So I record my drume useing a Roland TD - 20 as my controller for superior drummer 2 and all works well.

For instance today I was doing a nice easy song an intro 3 verses 3 chorus and an outro in 4/4 at 140bpm very easy groove with all closed hi hats in the verse

So I recorded the first  verse and chorus and thought I cant be botherd playing this again so copyed and pasted the rest in from the midi I had in PRV

The problem I have is that all of my hi hat hits in the first verse are closed like I want but in the second verse and any other verse I paste in to they are all open hits........ They should be closed just like the first verse but they are not.

The hits are all in the same place in both verses on the PRV aswell so cant I understand this.

Ive tryed Bounceing to clips then Ctrl L to create a loop and rolling it out but still the same problem

I even tryed exporting the midi in to a new session and still the same problem

Ive had this problem in the past and just had to play the parts but I feel now is the time to figure out why its doing this as my work flow could be a lot quicker if I can copy and paste parts I need.

This only happens with the Hi hats nothing else in any session I have done.

One other thing I should mention is I have the mapping set at Edrum and more closed curve 2.

Anyone have any Ideas please ?

Ive put a thread up on the toontrack forum about it but no answers yet and I have also asked there tec support but no answer yet eather.

Hope you guys can help :)

I think you need to add some continuous controller data to tell the Hihat to close. You may have not copied that part and so SD thinks the hihat is open.

At least I see this with my Alesis USB Pro kit as it uses CC messages for opening and closing the hihat.

You have to copy and paste the cc4 data along with the MIDI notes...  or convert the MIDI notes to absolute Hihat articulations.

Not really sure how to create the cc4 data but I think you could play the groove clip and record just stepping on the hihat along with it to close it. Then bounce to clips both the groove clip and the pedal closing just recorded and make a new groove clip.

Thanks Jim

Ive spent today messing about with this problem

I started a new project to try a few things and whn I play I have now found what you meen by the CC4 data I need to copy over so I know to look for that in future so its not going to happen again :)

What I cant understand though is in the track I was having the problem in the verse that has the closed hi hats hasnt got the CC4 data there to copy but is still doing the closed hats where it should be but like i said when copyed in to another part or draged out as a clip its all open hats still I just cant seem to get the CC4 Data

It was a simple song so I have just played it now but I think this is just going to be one of them things I will need to watch out for in future and make sure that the Data is there and showing upwhen I am recording

I still dont get why its not showing up but doing what it should haha

I will plod on and learn from my mistakes :)

Hi Norrie,

There are two methods to control the hihat.. via Trig levels using the cc4 data to control the Hihat position... or by using the absolute MIDI notes for each Hihat articulation.  The cc4 data is interpreted by Superior and converts the notes into Absolute values which it then uses to trigger the different Hihat articulation.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks for the reply

As I said in the above post I have now figured out what exactly cc4 data is
I will be the first to hold both hands up in the air and say I know nothing about midi and how its controlled ( I plan to start learning for times like this)

So today with lots of playing about anc checking  I have  found out what to keep an eye out for to make sure I am not in this situation again and how to find the cc4 data. ( I dont know how I lost it but I am sure it will happen again and at that point I will then hopefully know what Ive done wrong)

As for absolute Midi Notes I dont know what that is

Would you have a momment to explain it to me ? I am keen to learn and if it would help me to know then I would be most great full

Thanks again for everything

Oh and I almost forgot I shall be geting my Evil drums order in this week :D so Keep up the great work

Hi Norrie,

If you open Superior Drummer and click on the Question Mark (?) it will open a menu, foe each expansion pack you should have a "MIDI Layout" option.

That will list the absolute MIDI notes assigned to each drum articulation, for instance the Snare center articulation is note 38 (D1), the Snare rimshot is note 40 (E1).  In Superior Drummer 2.2.3 you can remap the notes in the Mapping page.  The Snare can use cc16 to switch between Snare Center and Edge articulations.  Similarly, the Hihat has varying levels of openess recorded as separate articulations - with each articulation mapped to a different absolute MIDI note.  The Hihat Mapping page also has some special assignments for use with eDrums: hatsTrig, hatsTipTrig and hatsCtrl (etc).  Depending on your eKit you would assign all Hihat Shank Hits to hatsTrig and all Tip Hits to hatsTipTrig and the hatsCtrl is normally cc4.  Superior will then convert these incoming Trig notes internally into the separate Hihat articulations depending on the cc4 data.

All MIDI Grooves in Superior have no cc4 data -- the Hihats have been separated into separate articulations for easier editing.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your Evil Drums SDX purchase.

Cheers,
