Superior Drummer alongside EZ Drummer
Hi there I've searched and read that Superior Drummer 2.0 can play your old EZ Drummer kits. Is this the 16bit processed/compressed EZ drum samples upgraded to 24bit (processing intact)? Regarding grooves, I only have the main Superior 2.0 (avatar) library installed along with the limited selection of grooves it comes with. Can your old EZ Drummer grooves be used to trigger the Superior 2.0 libraries? If so, how would one go about this? Stewart

There is no upgrade to the EZdrummer samples by loading in Superior Drummer 2. An EZX will play in Superior and you get a bit more control in that bleeds can be manipulated and FX can be added and manipulated in the instrument tracks. EZdrummer grooves can trigger Superior Drumsets with 99% compatibility. It depends on the kit that the grooves were designed for. ie. Twisted Kit, Claustrophobic, Latin Percussion grooves would be a few that wouldn't be compatible other kits. The Pop/Rock kit grooves should be very compatible.

What he say. RE MIDI grooves. If you've installed them properly (I did all mine in the same place) Sup should see your grooves via the Grooves button.

Mod Bod It depends on the kit that the grooves were designed for. ie. Twisted Kit, Claustrophobic, Latin Percussion grooves would be a few that wouldn't be compatible other kits. Mod Bod: I did not know that Latin Percussion EZX is not compatible with SD2.3. I own it and thought I tried it in SD, but maybe my vintage memory is failing me again; perhaps I have just been using it in EZD. Now you have made me think again -- I must get up, go to the basement studio and try it out in SD2.3 again.

Yep. I was rethinking this on my way downstairs. Before I got to the studio I determined it was what you said it was and came back up to look at what the OP was asking. Yep you are right again. So Mr Mod Bod, if you read this, know that Bapu got me straightened out first. Thanks.

Thanks Guys. Much appreciated. I can't recall what I done with my EZ Drummer and additional kits. I've been searching thi s[ast hour or two. I had a fair few of them too. Seems like years ago. Hmmmmmm. Aside from buying the SD2 SDX expansion packs for additional libraries/kits/grooves, which I'm sure I will at some point, where else can I find usable midi grooves which are compatible with SD2? Can anyone recommend any sources? If there 'are' any that is. Hell...I dunno, perhaps you can only use toontrack's own grooves? Stewart

you can buy extra MIDI loops from toontrack besides the ones that come with the expansion packs. just be careful because some of the packs are duplicates of the ones with the expansion packs. they're $30/pack. smartloops.com and groovemonkee.com both have MIDI loops for sale. groovemonkee also has some free ones.

Thanks Guys Beagle...I'm very intrigued by groovemonkee. They sem to have a lot of nive stuff. Their prices are a little less than toontracks' midi packs. However, I like the sound of toontrack's Americana, Blues and Rock packs and some others. They may be purchased before the day's out, as may be groovemonkee's Funk/Hip Hop/R&B pack. in relation to the groovemonkee's midi, where would the files be placed/installed to? Is there an installer or is there anything I need to be mindful of? Stewart

Stewart Don't remember if you put them in EZdrummers Midi folder or if the installer does it for you. But there is no problem. You get a SD named folder from Groovemonkey.

EZD will pick them up when you open the grooves.

Another resource for good groove libraries is Groove Monkee - they offer grooves in almost all styles one would be looking for and offer monthly discount pricing to registered customers. There MIDI grooves come in various formats to support many of the major drum software VSTi available. http://www.groovemonkee.com/en/

Just another note since you seem to have Superior Drums 2, you should have also received a license for EZPlayer Pro (I'm pretty sure they still include EZPlayer Pro with SD2) which is very useful for converting MIDI drum grooves designed for other products effectively opening up many libraries for use with Superior or EZDrummer.

can't you just build X drums to take the place of any missing kit pieces from other groove clips?

i'm in the middle of trying to create my own unique drum kit, building x drums, is why i thought about that... i've chosen a really hard drum kit to emulate..... it's a set that dates back to 1974, todd rundgren's "Todd" album, song is ""Everybody's Going to Heaven / King Kong Reggae" i believe it was kevin ellman's kit, but rundgren's production.. and the sound of THAT kit... i want it.

Hey thanks everyone. I just got and installed Toontrack's Americana and Rock Songs and I took note of where they went. Seems this pretty much installed close to the folder where Beagle said Groovemonkee's go and there is a 'My Midi Files' folder there for them. I think you're right Smedberg...they have an installer which puts them there for you. What do you folks find to be the most useful Toontrack Midi packs? Hell, you might as well give me the other makers' too. Jind, I do have EZ PLayer. Converting other grooves? I'll have to look into this. Cecelius2....I'm totally getting the reggae pack from Oddgrooves. Thanks for pointing me in their direction. X Drums? I dunno what this is Modbod and Batsbrew. Do you mean changing kit pieces to accommodate incompatible grooves? Stewart

X Drums? I dunno what this is Modbod and Batsbrew. Do you mean changing kit pieces to accommodate incompatible grooves? Superior Drummer allows you to add extra pads to your kits called XDrums. You can assign any sample from any SDX or EZX to this extra pad and then assign any note to that pad. Comes in handy if you need a Tamborine or a Latin Percussion instrument.

Platinum Samples and Odd Grooves both have some excellent loops formatted for EZD/SD - I think Smart Loops does also
