Superior Drummer and drum maps

I'm using SD2 as a synth track. If I want to Can I use the drum map "Superior Drummer 2 NY Avatar" that comes with X1, I have to use another track (a midi track with the drum map output)? Or is there a way that I can use only the synth track but view the drum map in the PRV? Thanks and sorry for the silly question...

I don't have Superior Drummer but I would think so. All a drum map does is map input notes to output notes and allow you to assign those to various drum synths, or just one synth if you wish

Assign the MIDI track output to the drum map and when you open the PRV it should then already show as drum mappings in the PRV. There are a couple of bugs that show when using drum maps and the PRV though. One is the snap to setting, it won't follow the separate PRV snap, just set the global snap accordingly. The other is grid disply related.

yes, the NY Avatar is the kit that comes with Superior Drummer 2.0, so you can use that drum map for Superior if you are using the NY Avatar kit.

So it seems I can't use the same track for the midi notes, I need a second one, right? It was not clear because for eg. a synth I can use the same synth track for the midi notes. I can even right click the piano keys on the left and use eg. "General MIDI Drums" instead of the piano keys, however those don't include the articulations that's why I need a proper drum map, like NY Avatar or other I create for other SDX expansions. I think it would be a great feature in the next update of X1.

I don't understand your question or what you're trying to do - what do you think you need the 2nd track for?

One track is the synth track (which has SD2), and one track for the midi (with the drum map). I just wanted one track (as other synth tracks with simple synth can include the midi on the same track). Do you understand now?

I think you can, but you need to change the MIDI tracks output to be the SD synth track.

??? How can you set a synth track's output to a drum map? I can only set a midi track's output to a drum map. That's why I have 2 tracks instead of one. Not a big deal, I just thought it would be a nice feature in the future, since we have synth tracks.

oh - you're wanting a SIMPLE INSTRUMENT TRACK instead of a MIDI/SYNTH track combo.

highlight both the MIDI and the SYNTH track and then right click and choose MAKE INSTRUMENT TRACK

the drawback to that is you can only have ONE output per MIDI track.  with MIDI/SYNTH track combos you can have multiple outputs for the MIDI track which allows you to route Superior Drummer to the multiple outputs like a separate output for the snare, kick, tom1, etc.

EDIT:  that doesn't work with drum maps, tho.  I just tried and can't assign the MIDI track to a drum map before converting to an instrument track.

Yep, unfortunately it doesn't work, it says "Making an Instrument Track requires that a single Audio and MIDI track are assigned to the same synth." So it seems I must have a separate MIDI track if I want drum maps.

TBH I've never seen much point in instrument tracks. I might have missed the point admittedly but as far as I can see, you get less control & options to save one track in view, which could have been hidden anyway.

Perhaps I've missed something but I'd just go the separate MIDI/Audio track and use the map that you want.

I agree with you.  I've never used them and the only reason I know they exist is because of people asking questions on the forum.
