Superior Drummer

I'm considering ordering Superior Drummer, and I'm wondering if there are any words of encouragement or advice from those who use it with X1.  Has it been stable and trouble free, or have there been problems?  I've been using Jamstix for a while, but it seems to lock up on me, and I've lost faith in it.  Thanks for your replies.

All the best,
Lynn

SD2 is great as far as stability goes and it is x64 (to their credit).  Bottom line, it works great with X1.

I've used it on a couple of TV cues this past year - it did the trick perfectly without headaches for me -- and I'm still in 32bitland

Although I haven't used it extensively in X1 as I only recently purchased X1 Producer, I haven't had any issues with Superior Drummer in any previous DAW and so far so good in X1.

When I first read this I thought crap how many time HAS Superior Drummer crashed my X1. You see, I've become conditioned to assume that any given plug can crash Sonar. Then, a bright beam of light appeared from nowhere as I realized that SD has never ever crashed X1 or given me any grief at all. It actually worked perfectly!

It sounds great.  I'd suggest getting the "Retro" package of sounds with it. They sound great as well as the kits that come with it.

I'm proud to say that Toontrack is one of those companies that I fully support by purchasing all their products. I do this because everything just works as advertised, they're on top of any technical issues and they have every type pof software it takes to get the most professional drum sounds imaginable. for someone like me who can't play drums I can write really good drum tracks thanks to all the Tootrack software. They also have a really fine beta testing program that shows its stuff in the minimal bug issues that exist.

The variety of drums, MIDI, fx and features available are just mind boggling. They even have drum replacement software which works exceptionally well.

I can't recommend the product/s and the company highly enough.

I also have Battery 3, Jamstix 3, DR-008 and of course cakewalk's Sd2 & 3 but in my mind nothing compares to Superior Drummer 2.

I can easily recomend the Superior Drummer - you'll never look at another drummer again!! I wish the drummer in my band was as stable as Superior Drummer!

The add on packs are great. I have Metal Foundry and Evil Drums

I recomend it over EZDrummer, which also is a great drum VST, but it's far from as versatile as Superior Drummer

All 64-bit here and SD2 and SX1 are the best of friends

I just got my SD yesterday, and I'm having install issues as well.  I got the authorization codes in my e-mail but they don't work.  I got a box of discs with both EZ drummer and SD, and I installed everything to the VST folder in CW.  Initially, the program installed in my x86 program files, but X1 didn't find it even after rescanning.  I still doesn't find SD.  Any ideas?

Make sure that your plugin path definitely includes where the file is. Since I've got the 32 and 64 bit versions of X1 running, and having updated all of my "proper" plugins (to their latest versions), the list of locations in the plugin manager is huge.
I swear I had just 2 locations a few months ago!

A word of warning about SD2 - if you go mental loading lots of kit X1 can and will crash (on my pc). I see you have 8 gigs of RAM so you'll be fine but my 4 gigs hasn't been enough with SD2 and a few other bits of kit running at the same time.

Have fun! I really enjoy using it in 64 bit land now!
You can download the 64bit update (most current version)from their website
Check it out, everything has to be the most current version and in the right folder for it to work.
It took me a few tries but finally got it working.

    1. Toontrack send you all their software so you can try any of it at any time you want
    2. Only install what you actually purchased.
    3. There are the program files inc VST files & MIDI files then there's the samples to install.

The VST's go into whatever your default VST plugin folders are. Make sure that SONAR knows to scan those folders. You have 8 GIG RAM so assume you're on a 64 bit OS. If you use 64 bit SONAR no need to install the 32 bit plugin at all.
You get the choice at install time which plugin (32 or 64 bit) you want to install.

by default Toontrack creates a folder labeled 64bit in your VST Plugins folder. You can't change that for Sup Drummer 64 bit. The installer will allow you to decide exactly where the plugin goes.
just some things to consider. If you follow the installer carefully there's no reason to have problems.

    Hi Grum,

Just in case you didn't know : there's a Cached feature in SD that will load only the samples you use in a project.
BTW SD is my all time favourite plug in.

Thanks but I have seen/used that. The problem used to occur when clicking on one of the sound presets, it goes a bit mental and tries loading a lot of stuff and then Sonar would crash.

Thanks to all who replied.  I have it working in 64 bit mode now after a few miscues.  I made the mistake of loading all the software that came in the box instead of only SD.  A friendly support tech at Sweetwater guided me in the right direction.  Needless to say, the drum sounds are fantastic.

    All the best,
    Lynn
