Sure glad it was free...

I upgraded to X2 last night. received the DSF Symphonic Strings for Dimension. Played through all the string patches. Truly, there was not one that I found to be stellar sounding or truly playable out of the gate. Too bad there weren't other options to replace this freebie with. Disappointed... but X2 will be here soon. Not that I need it, as X1 works very well here for my needs. For that, I say - Thanks, Cake!

I have picked up a few "free" things from time to time.  Most are not worth the time to DL them.... others are quite useful.

I have a free synth version of E/W that has (for me) one useful strings sample in it. Another freebie from a different symphonic library consisted of stacatto samples... for me, a total waste of time.

    But they were free.... right?

The BEST free stuff I have ever used was the Native Instruments Kore player with it's dozens of patches... totally awesome. I could not believe my ears and knowing that it all was free. Of course.... I did go back to them and spend several hundred on some other stuff, so I guess their marketing plan succeeded. Love the NI stuff.

NI currently has several freebies up there....

My favorite free synths are P8, and those made by TAL, ex, noisemaker.

I seem to have a lot of free synths and I am still weeding them out but here are what I seem to like the most and as I add more commercial vst's some of these probably will fade into obscurity: minimoque VA, kairatune, oatmeal, voyager (rewired in reaper it works) synth 1, istvan kaldors maestro, Organized Trio, Guzheng, Syntar, Wusik Eve (just got), Xils Lab CM (their demos rock as well), Zebra CM, Zebralette, Tyrell, Triple Cheese, Tube Ohm freebies, Dune BE, Plex, Rhino CM, Krakli makes some fun stuff as does HG fortune, KX77 FREE, Solcito, IK Multi sample tank player, AAS swatches, NI kontakt and reaktor player, Alchemy player, East West freebie already mentioned, UVI player, Plugsound, MR ray,DSK asian dreanz, indian dreamz, accoutstic guitar Nylon, Dulcet, string Theory, Chimera, BR808, UFO2, Pitch Black, Church Organ 1 & 2, Dirt bag, Cryologic demo, Latte free, ELEKTROSTUDIO (odsay, or2v,) prodigius, monofury, old version of helix, CV Piano, Piano one SSO and Maestro sample collections and PROTEUS VX!!!! (REWIRED IN REAPER is the only way it works for me)
