Surface RT as controller with Win7

I am using WIN 8/SONAR and an RT..... it works wonderfully.... you get the SONAR screens, on the RT which you can then move around the studio and control SONAR wherever you are... took me about 30 seconds to set up.... 
 
The only quirk was that you need to have your MAIN PC need a PW to sign on.. you setup the DAW as a REMOTE PC and there is an APP on the RT that you start and then you login with your main PC and user id... and like magic, your PC screen goes black and it shows up on the RT.... 
 
Quite slick and I really like it when I am tracking.

You have to use the Remote Desktop feature of Windows 7, and I think it has to be the PRO version of 7 at that. Its not like using an app coded specifically as a controller, it is a remote view of your desktop where you can use touch or a mouse for control.

Remote Desktop on an RT tablet is a great idea!

I'm keen to figure out the best way to do something along this line as well.  My X2a setup has two 20" screens on a desktop PC.  I have a Windows 7 tablet PC (Asus EP121) so it would be nice to try out the brave new world of "touch" using it, but don't want to use it as the Sonar workstation itself.
 
I figure I can place it on the (physical) desktop and not get sore arms from reaching compared to buying a proper touch monitor!  I think this was a similar approach that someone suggested (as a directly connected monitor screen) on another touch screen thread here a couple of weeks ago.
 
Both desktop and tablet run Win7 Professional so I know I can do the remote desktop thing ok.  BUT - if I connect by remote desktop in Win7, the desktop PC then goes to the lock screen (as Jim said above). So ok for tracking on the other side of the room, but not as an "extra screen".  I wonder if it would be possible to rig up some way to have the (undocked) Console moved off onto a "virtual" screen on the tablet PC.  I tried something along these lines with VNC and it "worked" but with so much lag it didn't make any sense for moving the track sliders!
 
I can also set up something similar but different with my android phone using a Wireless Mixer app; or probably TouchDAW as well but haven't tried it.  I don't have an android tablet, I guess keen to see if there's any way to try a similar thing out with a Windows app instead of Android/IPad tablet.
 
Maybe a better (or otherwise easier) way to go is by running a remote control MIDI app on the tablet - e.g. BlueCat Remote Control, or build something in Ctrlr - and map these to the Sonar Console screens, plus hopefully some transport commands.  I haven't tried out Windows 8 yet but I guess the problem with this approach for Mike on the Windows RT tablet is you'd need them rewritten as Metro(? or whatever they call it now) apps.
 
Let me know if anyone's tried this or got a better suggestion!  Otherwise when I get a chance I'll try out a few more things and report back.
