Surprised myself

I'm busy going through most of my belongings prior to moving in a few days.  I'm trying to reduce where I can (or, at least, combine like stuff into smaller storage).  I've got piles for "Sellable," "Donations" and "Trash".

While going through my music stuff I stumbled on some song notes from who-knows-when including some lyrics I wrote that are just begging for music to go with them.  Kind of surprised me, a couple of them I barely remember writing and were better than I thought they would be!

Anyone else discovered hidden gems that you once made then put away for another day?

Here's one of the songs I found (apparently from 2002 when I emailed it to myself - must have been a dull day at work - lol!).  Not sure if the second part was supposed to be a chorus or not.  It looks like it would lead to a verse, chorus, verse, verse, chorus type of structure.  Who knows?

Dreamscape

light fades fast, I look around
shadows chase me on the ground
the air feels thick, my arms are damp
halos hug the tops of lamps

drifting shapes
shifting lights
fill my dreams
through the night
movie scripts
mysteries
colored scenes
fantasies

I walk a path that twists and turns
on grass that's cool and dense
I feel a breeze and see leaves move
from wind that lives in silence

to empty halls I look in fear
my mind makes the darkness stir
I leap away and turn to flee
from an unseen purr

time slows down, the air turns thick
my legs feel caught in sand
although I try I barely move
the monsters right at hand

the ground turns soft, my legs sink in
like running in the sea
when suddenly I fly away
and find that I am free

the scene has changed, I'm in the air
the clouds look made of cotton
I float across a sky so blue
my troubles long forgotten

waves of light obscure my sight
my eyes close on their own
I open them once the light has passed
and find myself alone

Not bad at all, my friend! You should definitely do something with those.

Good luck with the move.  Then you can work on the song and post a shameless plug.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?

Thanks Jan, but I can only wish it was that simple!  More like this:

    1)  Get/Find/Make lots of money
    2)  Buy all new gear to replace everything I had to sell (possibly having to move to a larger place)
    3)  THEN work on the song!

    Shouldn't that be

    1) sample 4 bars of a well known hit song and loop it to a drum machine.
    2) add your own lyrics
    3) make lots of money
