Sustain pedal - help!!!

Hi,

I'm a complete newbie, just started recording with my Sonar Essential/midi and acoustic piano set up. But I am having a complete headache with my sustain pedal on my digital piano. Basically, every time I press it down, it makes a random note - just like my fingers are doing with the keys but triggered by the pedal. It's really frustrating as everytime I change a chord, a random note is played.

I've tried different plug ins but it happens with all of them so not specific to that. I have just my keyboard checked as my midi output also.

Can anyone help at all?

Many thanks in advance

    Welcome to the forum.
    What is the piano?
Does it only do it when it's plugged into the computer or even when you're just playing while the computer is off?
Are you sure the pedal is plugged into the right jack?
