Swingpop, anyone? - (Reupload!)

This is my latest one... I don't consider it *totally* complete, as there are some tuning issue and a solo that needs to be redone, but overall, I'm sure you guys are gonna like it. I mean, at least I know I do!
There are some tweaks to make, but hopefully you guys can give me some pointers on what can be improved!

Yeah, as you said it could use some cleanup and a coat of polish but I think you have a good core.   I liked the second half of the solo.     Time to finish 'er up!

Thanks, Steve. On second thought, I'm going to revoke this submission to the song forums and finish it up for a re-release.

I like it , cool song mix sounds good. I was gonna say it may need a touch more reverb on some of the instruments and the vocals but I listened to it again and I am not so sure now, so, all  I can say is great job!

This is a very pleasant listen. You are one talented guy Dave!

I think the whole mix could use a tweak or two and I'm not helping much if I don't offer what I think might help. I think if you roll the low end off the horns and give them a reverb plate, it will give them that bouncy feeling that real horns would have in a small concert hall. Where you say "take it away boys"...I would add a trumpet solo or something JMO. The drums could use another sample if at all possible, maybe something more acoustic sounding. You could experiment with reverb to give the whole thing some space, but I would only add a small amount . If you can pan the horns separately that would help to give more dimension to the mix....all in all though a great start to a good song!

    ^^^^

    What Tim said.

Given the type of song it is, it just feels like everything should be coming off a stage in a small hall.  So panning the horns slightly to emulate a section and adding some room tone to everything seems about right.   Oh, and I agree that the "take it away boys" line is just screaming for someone in the band to do just that.

Dave, I listened to both versions and like the second the best.  I particularly like the sound of the bass.  As for the reverb, I've heard small jazz bands in clubs that are as dry as the Sahara, and this  reminds me of those times.  Either way, it's a bouncy song that makes me feel good.

    All the best,

for my ears....I'd like to hear your vox come forward a bit more...and while the bass line is tight...its very synthetic sounding to me which steals a bit from the nice acoustic feel of the production as a whole...

    very cool tune!!

thanks for having a listen, Tom! My intention was actually to fuse a little pop and funk with a more classic swing sound. By and large, it actually is meant to be a juxtaposition of natural, real, roomy instruments behind a more punchy hip hop beat provided by the bass n drums.
Out of curiosity- do you guys feel it should be a more standard swing track? (I don't plan to change it, just want to see how you guys view this track because I think many who've listened so far have a different perception of it than I do)
