Switch sample note expression with pc keyboard ?

I've been watching the MIDI orchestration video at groove3 with great interest.

The tutorial explains a couple of ways to select different note expression samples, say for violin to switch from staccato to pizzicato on the fly.  One way uses otherwise unused low register keys like C0-G0 on the midi keyboard to change the keyboard's midi channel for the incoming notes.  The other way was to use some midi translator gizmo in logic to remap the incoming notes to different tracks, each track set up with a different set of note expressions.

My midi keyboard is a little M-Audio Oxygen 8 which only has two octaves, 8 knobs, 1 slider and expression and pitch wheels.  It would be difficult to use keys to switch channels and have any left over for playing.

Is there a way in X2 that I could set up that would use pc keyboard shortcuts to reroute incoming midi notes to different tracks ?  That way I could play the notes with my right hand on the midi keyboard and select the different expressions with my left hand on the pc keyboard.

The video did mention that some people set up the mod wheel to switch channels but that it was hard to control.

I suppose another way could be to use the pc keyboard to select different elements in Dim Pro which could give me four different expressions, if there were a way to do that.
