Swunky Trump
You can probably tell from the title what the song is about. One of the things I miss most about New Year's Eve are the classic marathon Grateful Dead shows. (Yes, I'm one of those) While many people love to tell Grateful Dead jokes ("Hey they put out a 10-CD set, it contains two whole songs"), I love long jam songs, and even when writing my own songs, find it next to impossible to write a song shorter than 4 minutes. So with all that, here's a funky, progressive, jazz-rock jam song, weighing in at a whopping 10 and a half minutes. But it's got enough changes, twists and turns to keep it going through at least 8 of those minutes. Sort of a cross between Steely Dan and The Grateful Dead. Also featuring some of the fastest virtual speed guitar playing ever attempted by these old fingers. Enjoy! http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13507119

Ha - very cool. I didn't have 10 minutes but the first 3 are great.

Nice rolling jam! And I did listen to the end! You expressed a lot of thoughts people are thinking as the changing of the guard is about to take place. Very cool!

First off, the funk arrangement in the background is pretty great! And there were quite a few times when your lyrics hit me so hard I laughed. I hope you can play at his inauguration, I hear there might be an open slot or two. cheers, -Tom

Thanks Tom. I was thinking of tweeting Trump a link to the song. But I doubt he'd find it as amusing as you did.

I can't believe that I listened to a 10 minute song but you were right --- it had enough twists and turns to keep one's attention. The lyrics were great and had me chuckling out loud!

Thanks for listening to the whole thing Freddy, and thanks for your comments. My favorite songwriters and bands are the ones that write unconventional song structures. Of course I also like "normal" commercial radio hits, but my favorites are songs that have unique structures and lots of dynamics (a loud part, quiet section, back to loud, etc) Rickie Lee Jones comes to mind. She writes these jazzy/fusion tunes, that have all those twists and turns and usually stays away from standard structures (which probably is why she never got much radio play (except for Chuck E's in Love). If you ever get a chance, listen to her "Pirates" album. Those are the kind of songs I like best. So, for years I've tried writing those types of songs without boring the pants off the listener. And I think this one has come closest to the kind of song I've been striving for. Granted, it could have easily faded out at the 8 minute mark without losing any of those twists and turns because the last 2 minutes was just a straight-away guitar solo to the finish line. Anyway, that's where I'm coming from, and this is what I got. Thanks again!

I can't believe I posted this a year ago. Time flies when our "president" gives us such interesting news on a daily basis. It's been a hell of a year. Here's hoping 2018 gives us a more optimistic outlook.

I can tell from the song that you're a big fan of Trump Cool song - I liked how you integrated the horns in your composition. Nice lead guitar playing too.
