Sylenth1 or Synapse Dune . Anyone here has these?

Both Sylenth1 and Dune are about the same price and maximum limit of my budget and both eat up low CPU calories.

Is there anyone else here with plenty of experience of these synths who would like to share their thoughts and recommendations?

The demos of both are great. Dune seems to have a nice smooth top-end whereas Sylenth1 has more bite. What I'm unsure of is the versatility of sounds, depth and ease of sound-shaping and flexibility of the arpeggio and morphing capabilities.

I'm mostly interested in sci-fi soundscapes, haunting-eerily pads and solid synth-strings along with melodic and percussive elements such as mallets, harps, bows and impacts.

    Hi
I have Sylenth - had this for some time and am on V2 these days. I'm not sure from the description of what you want that this is what you are really looking for - I would have thought perhaps Alchemy (Alchemy Player) and a couple sound packs might do the job better.
I use Sylenth sometimes in the normal sort of music we do, but I have just used it extensively in a dance / house track we have just released - I think this type of music is what Sylenth is very good for - anyway if you want have  a listen.

Sylenth is my favourite synth even though I don't do dance music. I would say it's primarily a dance synth as virtually all the patches and soundsets you can buy are like a back catalague of dance music over the years. Rob Lee's soundsets are great. He does some for Dune too, I think. It's my dirty pleasure as I'm more of a rocker. Alchemy sounds closer to what you are looking for.

Dune is popular as is Zebra nowadays.

If your budget is a bit tight, consider getting it at KVR for almost 50% off the full price and sometimes they include additional sound paks too. (I saw Synth1 for sale just yesterday......)

Thanks for the insight on these synths :)

Alchemy is a little over my budget and I don't think the demos on the site do it justice because some of it sounded bad over-emphasis (hiss) in the top-end but I guess that can be tweaked/filtered out within Alchemy to much sound better.

Initially I was leaning more towards Dune mostly because of it's cutting edge sound and silky smooth top-end but Sylenth1 seems really good also but in a different way which is hard to explain - perhaps slightly more old-school?

Having both Sylenth1 and Dune would be ideal and compliment each other but my budget will only afford one then if need be get the other one later.

Has anyone done multiple instances of Sylenth1 or Dune simultaneously in the same project and if so are there any limits or issues?

    Hi Mesh,

Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't know KVR had a retail section?, are these 2nd-hand sales by forumites? . could not find Sylenth1 or Dune on sale, when I searched the forum a message said I must login but I'm not a member, well urrm not yet.

Alchemy goes for a good price secondhand on KVR and they are great with support and knowledge. Definitely look secondhand. I buy lots secondhand - some may become NFR - but others do not. Why pay full whack when you get it cheaper?

It's a waiting game for things to come up for sale and you have to act pretty quickly when it does.

I guess one question is are you more into sound design, or maybe just slight modifcations of a preset.  IMO, the best sounds out there are Nexus 2   right now.  It's my go to synth over Alchemy and Omnisphere.  It just sounds soooo good, and is so easy to use.  Especially the trance gate is a piece of magic.

    Hi Mathew

Excellent suggestion :) but aww man it's over my budget! I have looked at Nexus.2 and thought yeah it sounds very nice but unfortunately it's also very expensive. I agree though it would be my choice over Alchemy and Omnisphere.

I normally don't use presets but they're OK as a starting point. I've been into sound design and slight modifications of presets since 1980 starting with Modular Synthesis and later got involved with Korg Poly Six, Roland Juno, followed by Yamaha DX7, Ensoniq SQ80 and Korg MI.

Though my core instrument 'was' piano it did take a back seat between 1986-2012 as technology and all it's insatiable madness completely overwhelmed my senses and fried my b br brr brain but luckily I made a recovery... I think!?! Today is Saturday isn't it?

I think Dune and Sylenth1 both have enough sound shaping features and with effort the results should be OK... I hope LOL!

There is also the option of layering pads, leads and arpeggios which is what I'm use to doing and sometimes as a workaround but yeah I'm use to putting in that extra effort.

Thanks StrikinglyHandsome for the additional info about sales at KVR. But as you said; I have to wait, keep an eye out like a hawk and swoop in at warp speed.

Here's a link for DUNE for sale at KVR's market place. I've bought quite a few items (including Alchemy) at KVR and there's also a "feedback" thread over there where people comment on past dealings with any seller. Most of them are regulars.

Cool  Thanks for the lead on this. I've PM'd the seller. I'm nervous about buying from people I don't know so I hope this one works out OK.

    Good luck Greg!!
Just to ease your mind.....read up on some of the feedback he's got from previous sales.
Also ask if this Dune will become NFR (not for resale) as well as will he pay the transfer fee (if any).

Buy from someone with a quite a few posts. They won't be doing a runner. Generally, it's just common sense but if ever in doubt, pull out.

    Doing a Runner?

    NFR?

    Transfer Fee?

    OMG?

Thanks guys now I'm even-more nervous... I dunno now.

Seriously I think it might be worth paying the extra $50 to buy direct from Synapse as this will give me peace of mind.

Also in your price range is SynthMaster.  I just discovered this instrument and was pleasantly shocked at how deep it is and how elegant the user interface is.  In fact, the only aspect of it that didn't totally blow me away was the preset library ... but what makes a good sound is one of those YMMV sort of things.  The SynthMaster site has plenty of demo tracks and you can also download a demo for no cost.

Under the circumstances and with the wife by my side WE have decided to withdraw.

I appreciate the lead and advise. Thanks!

Thanks for the lead up on SynthMaster. It's a nice synth with what appears (on first view) to have plenty of options and well laid out UI.

Listening to the demo (Rob-Lee) at times he likes to overly sweep the sound a little but this technique highlights the filters/sound capabilities. IMO Dune has silky smooth sounding filters - way smoother top-end and more defined.

BUT this is my opinion and these are all demos I have listened to and should not be quick to judge. I have other synths + Sonik Synth and SampleTank of course with loads of tweaking effort together (layered) they seem to cover a reasonable amount of sounds in a much similar ballpark.... that's saying a lot for SynthMaster and Alchemy.

Everything out there have strengths and weaknesses but when combined and with effort they have to potential to reach unprecedented enlightenment - hurtling the senses far, far away in another galaxy.

And this is why I'm wanting to add yet another new drone to the collective. Resistance is futile!

Have you tried Z3ta?   That's also really good, and super cheap.

No I don't have it, I'll probably hold out till X2 as it may include the newer version.  Z3ta.2 seems fine and is something that I would use as an addition to what I'm after and as a compliment - probably next on the agenda.
