Synth Rack Issue

Hi All,

Just joined the Sonar collective last week after being a Cubase user for far to many years. I have noticed an issue and I was wondering if I am the only one experiencing it.

Having installed Sonar on a new Quad Core I started experiencing audio pops and cracks when moving clips (and even when drawing a lasoo) whilst a project played back. After taking my computer to pieces, installing old sound cards, graphics cards, drivers, blah blah blah it dawned on me that the problem was the synth rack view. (annoying because I had experienced this when trying the demo on my old computer last month and didn't remember before embarking on the major computer dismantling exercise!!)

So the question is - does anyone else experience drop outs and glitches when the synth rack view is open? My system and Sonar 7 work beautifully when it is closed, I tried a test, loading 20 processor hungry VSTi's and effects and not even the slightest audio glitch occured.

Not a major issue by any stretch but if anyone has any thoughts it would be great to hear them.

Cheers

Millsy

Your video card may be the culprit.

I used to see this on my old computer, although not with the synth rack specifically. The problems went away when I upgraded my computer, with a different video card. However, my previous workaround may help you: first, turn off video hardware acceleration. If that doesn't do the trick, tell Windows to give priority to background processes.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Thanks bitflipper, already tried both of those but synth rack still causes problems. It's strange because it happens on my old computer also which has vastly different specs and hardware.

(and even when drawing a lasoo)

Bitflipper is still onto it. Sounds like your video card is requesting an interrupt. A shared IRQ.

    You may be able to:
    1. Move it to another slot. or
    2. Turn off the IRQ for video in the CMOS.
    3. Replace the card with one that is known to not require and IRQ.

A shared IRQ. Bet money on that one.

Thanks for the reply. I moved the card this morning to ensure it was not sharing the same IRQ as the graphics card.

Could turning the IRQ off in the CMOS still help? It sounds a bit technical, im not the sharpest with this kind of thing. Anywhere I can find out more info?

    Thanks

Yes. Some CMOS's do have a spot where you can "Allow VGA IRQ" or something close to that.
Lose the IRQ if it is in there.

Pops while drawing the lasso is what moved me to that direction.
I mean, really, how CPU intensive is drawing a lasso?

At least one person on this forum had to go as far as using his older Matrox card before it started behaving.
