And if you want to try it out, there's not only the Demo (which afterwards gets you a 20% coupon) but also the free version of their Player with more than 200 presets in full use.

The free version is pretty useless, I wouldn't waste time on it. But the full synth is quite excellent, comparable to stuff out there selling for 200 bucks or more. For someone who isn't really a synth guy and only wants to add one do-anything synthesizer to their kit, this would be a good choice. If you don't like to program (and frankly it's not the easiest synth to program), the add-on patch libraries are top-notch and cheap.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

With all the discussion about Synthmaster recently, I decided to check out the CM version. $55 for the full version is a bit tempting.

It might well be a great synth...and I know this sounds petty...but the audio demos they have on that page are absolutely horrible. I am inclined to find out more about the synth after reading the description though.

The CM version is one of the buggiest tings CM has ever put out. I found it to be useless. It's a shame because they have often provided great CM versions of synths

btw..if you do want to try the CM version, i highly recommend getting the digital version of the mag. It can usually be had for $2-4 online and you get access to their software library. Even if you don't like the CM version of synthmaster, you will find at least one plug worth the couple of bucks.

Cheers, dubdiciple, just took a CM digital subscription with Zinio for $18. Do you think CM updates its free stuff? Synthmaster CM was 2.5 when they launched it with their mag, but KV331 Synthmaster is at 2.6.19 now.

Fleer, it has been my experience that if there are updates, they tend t come right away or never. Support varies since support is usually by the company that makes the plug. The KV331 forum on KVR is your best place to ask questions on the topic.

The last I saw about updates to the CM version was on Jul 21 in this thread http://www.kvraudio.com/f...t=374043&p=5817125Unfortunately there is no update on this yet. We've dedicated all our resources to developing v2.7/v3.0 right now.

Cheers, scook, looks like I'd better go for the full version at JRR for $46. On the other hand, KV331 have regular sales including education versions, so I may wait for that v2.7 ;)

This is a great price for a great synth, it has had its bugs in the past but does seem to be getting better all the time. The latest version of CM I got has worked fine for my setup which is 32-bit before I got the full version. It gives you lots of options for the price and the presets especially from Nori Ubkata show what it is capable of. In the end its the sound that will make you decide on it and although it is not as "sleek" as Zebra 2 my other favourite soft synth it is a great complement and good to have in the toolbox.

One of the regulars at KVR is selling his license of SM 2.6 with 21 sound banks for $160 OBO.......an attractive package no doubt. (I regulalry buy/sell stuff at KVR and you can generally get things at 50% off or less, so getting SM 2.6 for cheap shouldn't be a prob.)

Gotta be factory. It matches the description of the factory version on kv331's site.

I tried the demo and subbmitted to temptation. I have the serial number but can not work out how to regester it on the Synthmaster website. Has any one done this?

I don't recall a registration process. If you have a serial number it is already associated with an email address. Those are the two parts needed to download files from the User area. The servers routinely get hammered during sales and updates.

The code from JRR shop is not a serial number. You register it with you email at the link I posted above an the serial number is generated.

The factory presets are a mixed bag - some pretty good and quite a few just ho-hum. However, there are many add-on sound sets that are both fairly inexpensive and quite good. As someone else pointed out, the Nori Ubukata sets are a delight. Last time I looked (maybe a couple of days ago) these were on sale for eleven bucks apiece. With SynthMaster, you could very well end up spending 150 bucks or more by slowly buying the expansion sound sets - but by doing this incrementally, it's pretty painless.

I had this one crazy bug with the CM version where it would go silent after loading a second patch. I reinstalled and it fixed that. I haven't run into any problems since.
