System Specs for X1 - what are you running?
I have an Intel i5 Quad Core 2.67GHz w/4GB RAM 2-SATA HDD's running Windows 7 x64 and both X1 and 8.5 in 32 and 64 bit mode. It's almost identical to this one from Studio Cat ... SPECIFICATIONS: · Intel i5 2400 @ 3.4GHz · Large/quiet CPU cooler · H67 motherboard · SATA-III, TI Firewire, USB-3 · 4GB DDR3 · 250 & 500 GB HDs · Intel HD 2000 video · 22x DVD/RW w/lightscribe · Windows 7 x64 · 2-year warranty "A powerful (yet affordable) Digital Audio Workstation for recording/editing/mixing your Cubase, ProTools, Sonar, or Reaper projects. This system is compatible with all popular audio interfaces and applications. Simply plug it in... and start making music." ... and this one from Sweetwater: [style="font-size: 11px; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);"]Motherboard: Intel w/H55 chipset [style="font-size: 11px; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);"]CPU: Intel Core i5 3.33GHz [style="font-size: 11px; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);"]Hard Drive(s): 2x Seagate 500GB SATA [style="font-size: 11px; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);"]RAM: 4GB DDR3/1333 ... and this one from Musicians Friend: Besides its exceptional processor, the Rok Box i5 is also equipped with a 250GB primary drive, 500GB audio drive, and 500GB sample drive; 4GB of memory; It's been suggested to me that an i5 with 4GB RAM such as mine and the ones being sold above by very reputable dealers are not capable of running 1 track with Guitar Rig Pro 4 on it in X1? What are your system specs and can your DAW handle 1 track with Guitar Rig Pro 4 on it in X1C?

Both systems are self-build. X1 (32 bit) is running smooth on both systems. As a detail I can add on both computers there is a dedicated partition solely for music production. Those are not used for anything else! There is also a "game" partition and a Linux "daily work" partition on system 2. A few "software-test" partitions are made on both computers. Those are used for testing new software. On system 2 there is a "backup" partition, that can be used for permanent and temporary backup (using a high speed network for the second computer). If you want more information, please ask...

Mystic38 That Studio Cat is a ripoff at $1050.. pretty much any mainstream PC manufacturer does better, cheaper. But you're not comparing apples to apples. It's not a ripoff if you consider the DAW specific support you get with it and how much time is taken to customize it for DAW usage. Plus I'm sure they would adjust for current market values of such a system. And ... you're not being fair now. :) The ones from Sweetwater and Musicians Friend were $1500. FWIW, about 5wks ago for $800 I purchased an HP Elite 580T with i7-950, 8GB RAM, Blu-ray, 1.5T 7200rpm SATA 3G, GTX460, Win7/64.. and it flies. I paid $703 (after a $50 rebate on the video card) for an Intel i5 Quad 2.67GHz CPU, Gigabyte Mobo, 8GB RAM, 500GB SATAII HDD, Galaxy GeForce 9500GT 512MB Video Card, Windows 7 x64, killer Rosewill case with 2 huge case fans and quick connect screwless drive mounts, built in closeable storage compartment, washable air filter, 800Watt Green Power Supply, 22x Light Scribe DVD drive, and they threw in a free multi-card memory reader. That was 2.5 years ago. You could have got much more PC for your money if you would have built it yourself, but there is no reason your HP shouldn't work great! :)

I tried GR4 in a project last night to see if I had that problem. No problem with GR4 here specs are bellow minimum requirements to run X1 P4 3.2 in an ASUS P4P800-E 4 GB duel channel (3.21 XP) NV 7950 GT AGP bus M-Audio Delta 1010lt I was unable to reproduce your problem. Test was with 4 tracks one live audio with GR4 and four synths, nothing froze. I think you can safely rule out system resources on this one. I did have a problem when I first upgraded to the elite pack though, running the the most recent GR4 version got it sorted for me. Sorry can't be of any more help, hope you get it sorted soon. Pretty big image so I won't paste it here, but here is my screenshot during playback if it's any use to you. http://i56.tinypic.com/2n6em3b.jpg

Up until a couple of months ago (and I still have this machine.) SPECIFICATIONS: · Athlon 64 X2 4000 · nVidia nForce 430 motherboard · USB-2 · 2.5 GB DDR2 · 2 X 1Tb HDs · nVidia 6150SE onboard video · 22x DVD/RW · Windows XP Pro x86 This machine was able to cope (albeit barely on occassion) with a full mix of any CHB project to date and some of those have gotten pretty big! Currently SPECIFICATIONS: · Intel i7 2600K @ 3.9GHz · H67 motherboard · SATA-III, USB-3 · 4GB DDR3 · 2 X 1Tb & 1 X 500 GB HDs · Intel HD 3000 on-chip video · 22x DVD/RW · Windows 7 x64 Pro This cost me £620 ($1025) inc. OS and UK VAT, pre-built with a years RTB. (which was pretty cheap for this side of the pond, at the time of purchase) It runs like a charm I don't think I've seen the CPU meters go much past 10% at all yet. FWIW I reckon it is bad form to diss any manufacturer for price on an open forum (Mystic38). If you are happy with what you got for what you paid then just rejoice. I know Studiocat and ADK are very well respected DAW manufacturers and what they provide is good value for money and more importantly to many, complete satisfaction and after sales support. I know they work tirelessly, often beyond any call of duty to ensure it have no doubt. I've yet to hear a valid bad word said about them and I know many that use their products who are delighted with them. We could all source our parts and bolt the bits together if we wanted to and come in around the same amount of $, big manufacturers often drive down prices further by scrubbing features out of motherboards and other components also by buying out over-produced stock from suppliers at knock off rates, the only real value differential you can apply is service and for many that is well worth the $ difference.

Note - Running 8.5.3 so relevance is reduced. The PC in my signature is an "off the shelf" model from UK consumer computer company Mesh with the onboard sound disabled and a ESI Juli@ card fitted, along with extra disk drives. There are lots of non-music applications installed including Microsoft Office, Adobe Light Room, Canon photo Software, Bullguard Anti Virus and its connected to the internet. It has no problems running projects with three or four instances of GR4 essentials a couple instances of Kontakt and a few other VSTi and VSTs.

Your current i5 PC system certainly seems like it could plenty of tracks/instruments/plugs. I'm not sure if you stated if this is only a GR4 issue or if other VSTs have caused similar CPU spikes. At least that might help to pinpoint better where to look to fix the problem. If it is only GR4 (all of a sudden), you might be able to talk with NI and see if they can suggest possible remedies. If other VSTs have the same issue, you can start to look at OS updates or Sonar support for assistance. Best of luck, Tom

Has it been one year? Wow how time flies. I built a new DAW last August running the i5-750 chip with 4G ram and XP as the OS. I have 2 internal drives, one for OS & applications, the other is library and storage. I just installed X1 and so far everything is running smooth.

i7 920 (ORIGINAL FIRST GEN, not the ones with a gimped cache. Oh you don't mean the i7 2600 that already completely smokes a 920 and came in for a third of the price that yours did then? I can understand your stance.
