TAL-Vocoder in Studio Ed.
ive installed TAL-Vocoder into Sonar 7 studio edition and cant seem to get it to work. Along with any other vocoders that ive tried. What i want to do is be able to use the vocoder w/ a keyboard controlling the notes in real time rather than just putting the vocoder on pre recorded audio, but i cant even seem to do that right now. If someone could give me some suggestions that would be great. Thanks

Outboard gear is you best bet for vocoders when you want to control in real time Cj

does that also go for the prosoniq orange vocoder? with that i can actually get sound on pre recorded audio as well as real time but im still not able to control the notes it uses via my keyboard (axiom 49). Is there any way to edit the notes in piano roll or something?

SkunkThompson: Typically, the softsynth will allow you to choose what sound it will make by selecting from a list of "sounds" or "patches". How you choose a patch depends on the softsynth you are using. In Dimension Pro, at the top left of the synth interface is the Progam Area. Here you can click on the program selector, and choose which group of sounds (or patches) you want the synth to output. Some patches are better to use than others for a carrier signal, like ones with lots of overtones in the ranges that are modulated by the vocoder. I typically use a patch that is a "female ooh" or "female ahh". Hope this helps you out, Paul

ok i finally got it to work i think. but now can i use the actual vocoder interface to get the sound im going for or am i forced to use the soft synth's sounds? would this also work the same way using another vocoder program such as prosoniq's orange vocoder? thanks a lot!

SkunkThompson: I've never been able to get the TAL Vocoder to work using the internal VCO. The documentation indicates that it can be used like this, but Sonar doesn't seem to see it as a SoftSynth. So I've always used it in Input Mode as described. As for Prosoniq's Orange Vocoder, I have no experience with that, so I can't even speculate whether that needs to be used in the same manner. Paul

Paul in order to trigger the internal VCO, you have to have TAL Vocoder set up as a synth, not an effect. to do this (if you haven't already), go to the Plug-In Manager, find Tal Vocoder under VST Effects and click on Properties. click on Configure as Synth and rescan plug ins.

Throe: Thanks so much for that information. It works just as you indicated. It now shows up as a Soft Synth. There have been other plugins that also are documented as working that way and I've never been able to use them in that manner up until now. Thanks again, Paul
