TASCAM US-800 USB Experiences?

MF is blowing them out and I need a multi ch i/f for my Win 7 x64 laptop running S8.5p. I've read a few complaints about TASCAM drivers but others say it's working fine. What say you all?

I have never owned a tascam soundcard because I have helped a LOT of people on these forums and tascam has a bad reputation for poorly written drivers.  I know some people have had good success with the new units, but I also know some others have not.  I think the track record is improving, but not not "there."

I saw the $99 on MF stupid deal and thought briefly about getting one since it's so cheap.  but I don't trust tascam's drivers myself.

I'd be leery since I don't see anything about it having Windows 7 64-bit drivers.

The info on drivers is pretty sketchy but if you search out reviews, a number of people seem to be running it successfully on Win 7 x64.

For what it's worth, I have the Tascam us1641 and it works perfectly fine with my laptop which is xp SP3. But I cannot get it to run soft synths on my desk top system which has the exact same OS. Never sorted it out. There are people saying they have no problems with the unit on W7. I keep meaning to steal my wife's new laptop to try this. It is a bargain at $200 I paid for it , just can't use it with my desktop. This is fine as it's mostly used for live multi track input.

FYI, I passed on yesterday's deal. I think it would have worked for my planned use, at least now but I probably would have had to toss it or deal with the frustration of late/non-existent drivers when I transition Win 8 in a few more years. I came close to going for it though as it looks to be a nice device. Too bad TASCAM doesn't do drivers well.

Compared to the us1641 or the new us2000, that unit is very lacking in options anyways so I wouldn't buy it. Only RCA outs?? It's very basic for sure, there is no blend knob for monitoring either, big negitive. And it's plastic. For a little more money  The us1641 is very solid and roadworthy and has lot's of options, none are really missing.  And the driver issue is only with Sonar as far as I have found out. And only on certian set ups.
