TEARS FOR YOU - UNDER CONSTRUCTION NOW !

Hi everyone , long time coming after dealing with the flu and a sinus infection for two weeks but I finally finished this instrumental song .
This song was an old song I created four years ago , I like it but what it really needed was an overhaul .

I remixed it and added in some new piano tracks and some other new tracks , the old version was called Relaxed .
I changed the title thinking I might try adding some lyrics and vocals to it , anyway I hope you enjoy it for what it is .

I'm not the best piano player but I do my best , hope you enjoy it !

Cheers -James

tune has nice movement but the kit sound like its a bit too upfront in the mix so its masking some of the key parts.. fun tune

Thanks for the listen , maybe I'll lower the drum track some and see how that works .

I like the feel of the beat... I'd like to hear a littlr more Piano and a little less Synth Pad... the Gong is cool but maybe a little loud... Looking forward to the vox track...

Thanks for the listen and comments , not sure where your coming from because it has alot of piano in it and synth pads behind each piano section .
The only section that doesn't have piano in it is my long bridge section .
I just don't see how I could fit in any more piano without making it sound too cluttered with piano , this is pretty much it except for maybe some lyrics and vocals .
Hey thanks again form the listen and your feedback at your end .

James, this is a beautiful piece of music.  I like it as is, but you could tweak it this way and that, and it would still sound good.  I think what Frank was talking about was turning the volume on the pads down so the piano would be stronger.  However, I listened to the remix, so I'm not hearing what he heard.  Sorry you had to suffer with the flu and infection, but that's what artists do and create something beautiful like this.

    All the best,

Hi Lynn , thanks for the comments . Yea frank was right about the pads , when I remixed it I lowered the volume levels on the drum track and fills and cymbals plus I lowered the pad track for the piano backing .
In this remixed version you now can hear more of my piano then before , I'm glad Frank pointed that out for me .

Yea I went through  a week of hell with that flu and then after that came the sinus infection that lasted for a week too. I'm pretty much over with it thankfully , happens every year to all of us but for me this one started early this year .

    Thanks again Lynn - James

Over all it is a good song. I think it is kind of hard to make out what the piano was playing at times. It could be just a tiny bit louder on some areas. maybe a little automation would be good on the piano track, but the arrangement is sound and the song is good. I really like what the song does around 2:15. That was a nice touch.

Thanks Marcus for your take and suggestion on my new song , I just might have to go back and look at my piano track and my backing track to see if the piano track needs to be raised higher in volume .
Much of my piano playing is chords with single notes played off each chord if that makes any musical sense .
Tomorrow I'll have to take another listen to those tracks and see if any of them need some adjustments in volume , maybe raise my piano track some more .

Thanks again for your comments and suggestions -James

    Hey James!

Just took a listen...  Man I love the change at 2:20!  Nice motion going on there too.  And the mix is very defined and intelligible at that point as well.
In the main body of the tune I feel the piano is awash in either a long reverb or the synth pads... a little hard to tell.  So it loses a bit of definition.  The long reverb might be OK if the piano was more prominent in the mix (lower the synths a bit).  The gong/crash cymbal seems way too loud to me, except the one during the change.  Maybe a little strategic panning/imaging of the bed sounds could also bring out the melody in the center.

Very nice composition and feel!  Hope you've shook that nasty flu.

    Cheers!

I like it. I think it needs vox. I'm not sure about the change 60% into the song though. It seems out of place.

Thanks for the listen and comments , you mention reverb . The only reverb added to any of my tracks is my piano track , all the other tracks have compression added to them and thats it .
I had to add some reverb to my piano because if I didn't the piano sound would too dry .
I did remix it again for the third time , I lowered my pad synth so it was behind my piano track .
I think what your hearing is my chords in my piano track and not my pad synth sounds that were there as a backing to support what I was playing in my piano track .

Hey it is what it is , I really don't think another remix is going to change anything . The last remix I did I made sure the piano track was much louder then all the other tracks and thats why I don't feel another change will make a difference but thanks for your comments and suggestions .

Oh yea I'm feeling much better now , that flu caught me but surprise because a month before I had my flu shot . Just my luck after getting my flu shot I ended up getting the flu anyway and then a week with a nasty sinus infection so yes for two weeks it was hell but thankfully it over with hopefully for the rest of this year and next year too .

Hey thanks buddy for the listen and your suggestions , I'm thinking about adding
lyrics and vocals to it . As for the change in the 60% spot your taking about  my
bridge section . I created it that way  because as you know a
bridge is really all about sudden change in sound .  Taking your ears aways from the
song for a moment , thats what I was thinking about when I created that sound in
              my bridge section .

Thanks again for the heads up  , glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the listen .

James, I really thoroughly enjoyed this piece!    Well played and mixed!  There were  many treats along the way, and the whole 6/8 feel reminded me very much of a Yanni at the Acropolis number, this one of yours would be a superb performance number like those, including the gong        Well done!!

Hi James,  Great arrangement, also liked those changes around 2:10. You mentioned adding vocals later possibly. If I were going to add vocals maybe I would not be so concerned about the piano. Might even thin it out some. If I were not going to add vocals I would make the piano more pronounced. If you used midi you have a lot of possibilities there in using other sounds  different reverbs etc.

Different people like differing amounts of reverb. Too much reverb though and the mix gets a washy sound depending on the amount and type. For me personally the reverb here is on the borders of being too much and maybe too large a space but thats only my opinion...others  might not think it is too much.

In playing synth type piano sounds I think some of those sound designers take a mediocre piano sound and add verb to it in order to hide its mediocrity. I still haven't found a really decent piano sound built into a keyboard compared to the streaming samplers. And even some of those are not so great.

The tendency that we have when we are not sure of something is to hide it in the back......  This has a nice atmospheric aspect to it..... don't hide the piano.

I would bring the piano up in the mix since it appears to be the main instrument. There's not much wrong with what and how you are playing it except it needs to be the spotlighted instrument. A few db's would probably be just about perfect.

The gong has to go.... it serves no useful purpose.

I would probably start it a bit different if I was mixing it.... Just piano and some light strings. Let things come in as it goes along and builds.....

That's just me though.... good job on this and a bit different for you,,,and I like the style.

Thanks Herb for the suggestions , I was out most of the afternoon at the doctors and read your comments on my cell phone and I'm just now replying .
I remixed the whole song over again , changed the reverb on the piano and even used a different piano in my cakewalk software .
In the first verse I doubled the piano track to get a fuller piano sound and then I remixed the other tracks .
I also got rid of the Gong like you suggested and shortened the intro fill by one measure .
Not much else I can do now , I can't get it to sound better then it sounds right now .
I reposted it on soundclick if you want to listen to it again , what I really need to do is buy some good piano software with good piano sounds to record with .

Thanks again for your comments and suggestions -James

James, I really thoroughly enjoyed this piece!    Well played and mixed!  There were  many treats along the way .

Hi James,  Great arrangement, also liked those changes around 2:10. You mentioned adding vocals later possibly. If I were going to add vocals maybe I would not be so concerned about the piano.
Different people like differing amounts of reverb. Too much reverb though and the mix gets a washy sound

Thanks Starise for the comments and suggestion , I plan on writing some lyrics and adding vocals to it . I just reposted my newest remix on soundclick if you care to listen to it again .
I made alot of changes from all of your suggestions , hope everyone likes it now .
With what I have to work with this is pretty much it , I can't get it to sound any better then it is right now I have tried just about everything you guys have suggested .

    Thanks -James
