TH2 Producer help!!

Hi
 
just started using TH2, in standalone it is perfect but when I try to use it as a synth??  or insert as a FX it is not right.
 
I have trouble finding the right IO,  the sound decays almost immediately because I have turned up the gate to stop the hissing.
 
I sound almost like I know what I am talking about but I don't.
 
All I want to do is put a guitar track down using TH2 using one of the built in sounds...
 
I have been told to play a clean guitar and then add the effects but it is not they way I wish to do it.
 
Any help would be appreciated but please bear in mind I am not really up to speed on some of this stuff.

    I either use it stand alone or as FX. The only difference should be the IO name and the level may be different in Sonar. If you can set things up stand alone you should be able to dial it in as an fx. There is an example program for TH2 - that's the easiest place to start.
     
    I don't play metal so someone who plays metal can chime in about how to tame a dimed amp. I play clean to crunch - just a little a nasty. TH2 is an amp modeller and a lot of the factory patches are for metal - there is a lot of gain and the treble is fairly high - that's why it's hissing. If you're not playing metal you'll need to find a patch to suit your taste or change the amp settings. HTH.

    I have never tried to use it stand alone, only as a VST. How do you use it stand alone?

    Thanks for the replies I think I may have it ! or at least I hope so.

    I upgraded TH2 from the cakewalk store and now I have a standalone version and FX.

    I just use the standalone through my quad capture card and off we go...
