I love this!  The percussion simply grooves.  Looking forward to when you write the melody. 
 
Thanks man , the cymbals are a major part of my mix and thats really what I wanted to showcase in this part of the song .
Not sure where this is going to lead me as far as a melody but I'm sure that part of it will surface as I move forward .

Thanks Phil , never heard of those places but I guess for people who can't create their own drum patterns that might be the place to look .
As for the melody , a good piano sound might work but right now I'm searching .
The chord progression works but I'm having If's and thinking about trying out some different chord patterns before cashing in on sort of melody .
 
Theres a ton of work to do , my main interest is to startout with a great sounding mix and then work through the rest of the song .

And yes, it can easily turn into a bunch of melodies, AAAA or AABA arrangement, song(s), etc. with this as the basis.  Just a few more hours (or hundreds of hours) left to go.

Sounds good so far James.  Great percussion but I think I'd have liked a bit more kick (I say this with the caveat that I listened on pc speakers, so that's a limitation).
 
Yea I agree with you on the kick drum , after listening to it a few times myself I decided I might  change the kick drum a different kick drum and bring up the volume a bit , maybe a bit more compression .

Like the groove and the slightly spooky, dreamish atmosphere in this but it's way too short! While listening with mp3-phones from my lap-top the mix sounds great, at least under those limited conditions.
 
Hey thanks for the postive mix and song feedback , its short because its only the first verse section the start of this song I started working on .
I'm still working on fixing the chord progression the last three chords in the section , I need something else so I'm searching for some other chords that will work and fit in with the other chords .

My reason for posting this short beginning sample was too get some feed back on the overall mix , the cymbal sounds in the mix is really what I was concerned with .
By combining too different cymbal sounds using the cymbals in Dimension LE and the cymbals in Addictive drums I was able to get the sound I was looking for without using any reverb effects .
Cymbals have a strong voice of their own if used correctly , I think I pulled it off this time without using drum sticks and real cymbals .

The mix sounds okay, but it sounds like a two-measure loop playing over and over and over and.....
 
Thanks Scotty , yea your right theres not much to this little sample . I was messing around with the mixing part of this sample and wanted some feed back on the mixing part of it .
I'm working on creating a new chord progression that doesn't sound so loopy as you put it .

Now that I have some solid postive feedback on the mix I need to create something here that doesn't have that loopy effect .

Overall, I really like the idea.  I think you're setting the mood for something that could be really nice in it's development.  I'm only listening with my cans right now, but kick was getting hidden right after the intro.  Also noticed the cymbals seem a little too top heavy (clouding up the upper end).  Lastly, someone mentioned the pad is too far back.  I would agree, but that's only with what you have so far.  You might fill it with something that would force you to leave it back there (so not a big deal). 
Good start though!
 
Wow Arlen or Mr. Grant ! Thanks for dropping in offering your support , as for this new song I can see I'll have plenty of things to think about from reading everyones comments .
I just listened to some of your songs and I can tell you are a real Pro at creating great sounding music , I really enjoyed what you have on your table as far as creating music .

Thanks for the support and advice , maybe in a month or less I'll finished this song .
I'm really not in a rush to finish any of my new song projects from now on , learning and expermenting is my focus now instead of seeing how fast I can throw a song together .
