Know the law, know your rights.... it helps to be a law student too. The average person doesn't know their rights and this scenario would likely have not played out this way with them. I did not find the video funny but I did enjoy seeing a citizen stand up for his rights. Open carry tends to freak people out....especially the un-educated with respect to guns and the sheeple can't cope with it well either. I notice that people tend to be friendly to you when you open carry. You tend to get more smiles, more "hey how are you doing.... hope you're having a nice day"... more thank you's....and good service too. An armed society is a polite society.

That guy didn't seem polite... he seemed like a total ass wipe. The officer and his colleague seemed polite. He will be lucky if makes it through life flaunting his open carry privilege without confusing some one and getting stand-your-grounded by some other well meaning sociopathic citizen. I'll bet he would hide that thing and actually start acting polite if he ever found himself in a dark alley with some strangers who didn't care about his silly video camera. best regards, mike

Bearing in mind recent events, and that the police are there to protect citizens and uphold the law, this guy was being a complete smart-arsed jerk. Nothing clever, brave or funny about that to me.

Right or no rights, they woulda grabbed him and had him in the car in cuffs in seconds. That video would literally be 5 secs long and it would have been filming the concrete and you'd hear a car speed away while the dude was screaming "Jones vs. Smith...you cannot arrest me....." They are the toughest mother ****ers there is. No other way to put. I have my doubts that video is legit. It could be, but a seasoned officer would have had the guys ID, verified he was a legitimate gun owner, and they both would have been on their merry way in a matter of a few minutes, no harm, no foul. But ... if a citizen chooses to be like that, I have no problem with it. He's well within his legal rights, and that's why these laws are in place ... to protect citizens, not the people that actually make the laws.

Bub: I have to agree with you. I see no problem with a law abiding citizen being left alone. The problem with the world now is, the people that are commiting crimes with guns are blending in with the rest of us like the freakin' taliban. I personally feel all weapons (even if you have a license to carry) should never be revealed. It's sort of like some of the things that get revealed on the forum here. If they never were said (like someone leaving etc) it doesn't put the community in a panic while thinking other things, ya know? Like the recent parting of some of the Bakers. Right away the community thought Cake might be in trouble or whatever. I think the whole visible gun thing in citizens is a bad move. If I saw someone walking down the street with a gun that wasn't a cop, I'd have to make a call. Of course guns aren't legal here...so I'd have a good reason. But with the way this world is now, I personally see no problem with reporting someone with a gun and see no reason for them to be spot checked to see if they are ok to carry with no warrants. The recent attrocities in the country have forced that hand in my opinion. Sort of like the terrorists attempts at making flying such an inconvenience to us all to where *some* people feel like they are a prisoner in their own country, know what I mean? So many variables here...but I got no problems with people packing and don't think guns need to be banned. Stuff is going to happen whether there is a ban or not....most of the crimes committed are with guns that aren't licensed or are stolen...no nothing changes. -Danny

Bub Wow. I never thought I'd see the day when a law abiding citizen stands up for himself and get ridiculed for it. What ... the ... ???? Standing up for your rights is one thing. Being a d*** is another. Like Digi2ns stated. He could have just shown his papers and been on his way. Apparently he was doing something screwy because the cops didn't say 'one' person called concerned. He said we got a 'few' calls. In light of some of the gun incidents all over the news the last few years, even if you're allowed to carry a weapon, how do the cops know you're not just some nut bag off to the Piggly Wiggly to start popping off rounds? All they did was ask for his papers. They didn't treat him like a criminal or slam him on the ground. It's called doing their jobs. Mike

I just finished the Groove3 X2 Explained vid. At first I thought it was gonna be a dud and just repeat a bunch of stuff I already knew but I wanted to trawl it for any little extra tricks I may have missed so far... but as the vids pressed on... holy crap did I ever learn a lot. Highly recommend that one. Still leaves out a lot but the way that guy did certain things was very eye opening.

They usually don't apply to me and how I use Sonar though. Some of them do, but for the most part, I'll start watching one and say "ah, I know I'll never use this" or "I don't have to do this style of music often". Most times, when you get a rap client or an R&B/hip hop client, they have all their beatz and grooves ready to go. It's rare I literally have to create stuff for them as they have it all mapped out and just drop their samples right into Sonar. It's good stuff to know though, that's for sure. But I think the Bakers need me to make rock/metal videos for them so we rockers aren't left out in the cold! Hahahaha! -Danny

I hear ya, Danny. A lot of it is probably throwaway or duplicate knowledge but I'll be focusing a lot on the creative end of things so the more tricks the better and being a total MIDI/soft synth n00b I need a good foundation if I'm ever gonna get taken seriously. Now that I'm done that series I'm looking around at what to snag next. I've only got another 3 weeks or so with this free pass so I have to choose wisely. I've done Mixing With X1 which was okay and X2 Explained. I might do the X1 Tips and Tricks becuase there's a bunch of stuff listed I really want to know how to do but I REALLY want to dig into the general mixing section of the site. I think I'd better make a list of the vids I'm interested in and prioritize them. Even slamming away at these non stop every day I don't think I'm gonna be able to get to everything I'm interested in. Like a kid in a candy store... lol. ;-)

Most of the dudes who'd put their work in my hands are all rockers so I can't ignore that stuff... not to mention that's obviously my personal bent even if I'm moving more towards a conglomerate of styles.

I was born and raised in NJ and back in 1972 I had to go get fingerprinted and do all the police dept's red tape process to apply for a permit to buy rifles and shotguns to simply purchase a Crossman 761 BB gun. Forget getting a pistol permit to carry concealed, and do not dare to carry a gun open. Open carry is prohibited in ALL areas. No carry is allowed in vehicles either without a NJ carry permit (extremely difficult to get) or a purchaser ID card issued by NJ. There is no right to self defense with a gun and no castle doctrine in NJ.... use a gun ... go to jail. there is already an existing (so called) "assault weapons" ban and a hi-cap mag ban.... Traveling through the state carrying a weapon which is legal in your home state will get you some hard prison time if you happen to get stopped and searched. This has happened to more than one person. NJ law enforcement is not friendly to guns.

I was born and raised in NJ. My dad and brother always had guns when I was growing up. It was never any big deal to get them, but I imagine it depended on where you lived and who you knew. And my brother is an officer in a small town, so that doesn't hurt I guess. The problem isn't Jersey ... it's the trash passing through it on it's way East.
