You obviously haven't worked out how it's affected your post count yet. That's everything.... or so I heard.

I'm a little shocked honestly. Not that it really matters what I think.

Honestly, all I'm trying to do is hit Aluminum Status, then I'm outta here.

My goal is to do it tonight.

But seriously, how did ... get ... and ... didn't? Eh?

    Thank you!

And just look how we repay them.

We showed that we could be 'trusted' for a couple of days and now look at the place again - thread after thread after thread of complete and utter tripe. Doesn't anyone ever get bored with the 'slightly altered' thread title thing.

Doesn't anybody get even a little bothered by the "few posters ruining the CH for everyone else" comment we received upstairs?

It made me feel incredibly thoughtless and selfish.

It's going to end up with just three or four of us in here doing the same 'jokes' over and over to each other. If anyone posts something remotely interesting it disappears off the page in just a few hours, submerged under a boring repetitive deluge of Am's and Ya's.

Sorry for that, but this place just doesn't seem to have the spirit and the sense of genuine fun it used to. I'm a big part of the problem I admit, but doesn't anybody else think it's just getting too over the top in here?

Very well put Steve. Perhaps we should do more to welcome in the new faces that venture here from time to time then disappear never to reappear again. I'm quite gregarious socially so can fit into any groove and run with it. Others I imagine, need to feel welcomed and accommodated, and who knows what future entertaining CH contributors may emerge.

However, if truth be known, I like to stretch the mind as much as the humour bone and the coffee house would be an ideal place to do that, as it once was, I recall that too.

Yup, Steve I even agreed with John about it because I feel it is a valid criticism of the place.

It seems that folk will do what folk will do nonetheless.

So what's your solution Strummy to pick topical news stories and post links to 'em?

That would bore the crap out of me, I have a list of those I can choose from my email account anyway.

    +1.
You think he got assimilated   No...plenty of serious places on the web and in these forums. The folks that critisise the content of the CH are rarely seen in the places where the serious discussions occur. Namely the tech forum and software forums. The Beagle, Strummy, Herb and many others here are always diligently around in a supportive serious tone helping new users in other parts of the forum.  I like the CH as it is but I vote you start serving decalf to the guests from upstairs.  Just sayin..

What about a kiss, boy? Why not start with a kiss before we go stampeding off to the clitoris?

While I am much in agreement with Straummy's sentiments I would caution us all to not throw the baby out with the bath water.  Yes, we could do with less inane drivel..much less...but not at the expense of the fellowship and commraderie that is exemplified here in the ol CH.

Just wait a mo before posting or responding and ask yourself...IS becan or a pitiful attempt at a Jamaican or British accent really that important??

Then listen to your heart...is it still beating??

In my humble opinion, there"s a difference between a dose of inaneness, and deprecation for the sake of post count.  Changing the title of a serious post and re-posting it smacks of making fun of someone's pain.

I will confess, I had decided to frequent the techniques and song forums more and pop in here less. It not that I am bothered by anything anybody said or did, but weeding through all the posts was becoming tedious. I guess the CH is kinda like the "Twitter" of the CW forums, or a semi-live chat room.

Besides, there are some darn good songs on the forum right now. I cannot believe Ron Vogel's song is not getting more attention, it's excellent.

I enjoy coming here and I even like most of the kidding that goes on. I made the comment about a few ruining it for the rest of us because I really felt like John was not being taken the least bit seriously.

Think what you will about John and his less than stellar way of saying what he thought about the CH...I think the man has a very valid complaint. IMO to collectively attack the entire CH was off base as IMO there are only a few who seem to be perpetuating posts for the sake of posts and it does trivialize another poster and can be taken offensively when someone posts another post and changes a few words or letters. This is uncouth IMO.

To me the whole thing comes off as a kind of bully(s) who for some reason needs to be one post ahead of everyone else and doesn't like new folks on the block. If this is someones idea of fun I missed out on it. What adds even more to it is giving these characters support and kudos. If you want different kinds of discussions on the CH then we need to stop affirming this type of behavior....

If I'm the odd guy out here I can accept that. If you are indeed a cliche then by all means, continue to do what you have always done.I could care less how many posts I have compared to someone else. If someone comes into the group you don't like then by all means post a half dozen posts over them to bury their post or change a few words in their post and post your own. These tactics are not invisible. I'll take my cue and it will be no loss for me.

I don't need to be king of the hill nor do I need to challenge the king of the hill.I don't think there should be a king of the hill.

So while I like the CH, I do get tired of the junk, however it's a free world here and if it doesn't violate the TOS ,keep at it but I won't be replying to it. If I come here I'll still need to sort through the inane tripe.

I'm not preaching here really. I know it looks that way. I'm merely saying that if you want collective constructive input and comments from more than a half dozen people locked into the same boring attempts at humor, then try getting out of the rut you are in.Don't support or feed into the individuals who continue to perpetuate boredom and uselessness.

Some of you have met and have great relationships off of the CH. That's great! I hope to some day meet a few of you myself. Even the people I mention who seem to go on ad nausium are good people...you are just in a serious rutt IMO.

I don't make the rules and I don't really expect my comments to change much of anything...but at least you will know where I'm coming from.

If you want newcomers to feel welcome you need to change your tack.

Steve FWIW...I appreciate your sensitivity toward my comments. That's a lot more than I frankly expected from the CH. You are not one of the ones I was thinking about.

This is exactly what I said in my post on this thread. (Post #12)

Your whole post was excellent Starise, and I commend you and Strummy for saying what IMO needed to be said.

Equally, like yourself, I am perfectly at ease with anyone posting within the TOS to do whatever they wish. I just think it may not add to the maximum potential that the CH is capable of giving to the participants.
