TOOL HUD in STAFF VIEW (X1b) *Confirmed & Reported & Workaround*

WORKAROUND

To Draw correct values simply use the
  • TOOL HUD in CONTROL PANEL or
  • Ben Stats Sonar Plus.

Can you reproduce this?

In STAFF VIEW I have trouble getting Sonar to Write a new changed note value.

  •   TOOL HUD    ( T  or Middle Mouse Button in Staff View)
  •   Change the Note Value in TOOL HUD.
  • Sonar continues writing the old note value on the Staff.

Exit that Screenset, to get note value to change and write the new/correct value.

The screenset was unlocked.

    • Seems to only happen when using the TOOL HUD (T)  to change note values.
    • Works fine when using TOOLS MODULE in Control Bar.

If anyone writes musical notes in Staff View, can you confirm note value issue using TOOL HUD (T).
press T or the Middle Mouse Button for Tool Hud to appear at your cursor.

Tool Hud     (T) or (middle mouse button)

    Anyone else experience this?
thanks....If so I will report it as a minor fix.

I don't have a fix for your problem, but thought this might be of use. SONAR Plus displays some quick access note length buttons in the Staff View menu:

Like I said, it doesn't fix your problem, but it's arguably even more convenient than changing note lengths via the tools HUD. Link in signature if you're interested.

    Thanks Ben!

Can you reproduce what I found with the TOOL HUD <T> not writing changed note values?
If so I want to report it using the proper channels.

Like I mentioned Control Bar is fine.

    BTW.
I look forward to Sonar Plus in X1b.
I did use it in X1A!

Interesting. I just tried it and it seems to work for me! Just to clarify, I'm clicking my middle mouse button anywhere within the Staff View, then the Tools HUD appears. I select one of the values from the note length dropdown, then the Tools HUD disappears, and my selection is shown correctly in the Control Bar.

SONAR Plus is already available for X1b by the way, I released an update yesterday:

Wait, I see what you mean. Although the note length value appears to change in the Control Bar after changing it via the Tools HUD, it doesn't actually seem to take effect. Yes, same here.

Do we all need to report it?

@Benstat --- I assume the same problem occurs even with the Sonar's plus excellent note icons?

    Reported with success.

It works 100% in the Control Bar.
Just would be easier to access shorter mouse distance with the <T> <Middle Mouse Button> Tool HUD.

Cakewalk confirmed the issue, and will fix in next release.

Aaagh! Yes, it looks like it. It does exactly the same as the Tools HUD.

Fortunately it just seems to be a problem with the Staff View. The SONAR Plus PRV note length buttons work fine. I'll see if I can work around the Staff View problem somehow.
Edit: Even the note duration keybindings don't work.

    Ben,

I submitted a report on the Tool Hud, as it is submitted, I can't edit it.

You could put in a new trouble on the Note Duration Key Bindings, as my trouble did not include it.

    **Note to readers**

X1b is working fine for me and I LIKE IT!
my laptop is running smoother with X1b than it was with x1a.
This is a minor issue that will be resolved and you can still change note values in the Staff View from the Control Bar.

    peace!

That's a good idea, thanks. I'll submit a report about the note length keybindings not working in Staff View. Hopefully Cake will get it fixed soon.

Unfortunately, as a result of this problem, I've decided to disable the extra Staff View menu buttons provided by SONAR Plus. Until CW fix this Staff View problem, there's no point in them being there. I'm trying to find a workaround, but it doesn't look too hopeful at the moment I'm afraid. That's a real shame because I know quite a few people wanted the Staff View note length buttons.
    Edit: Submitted to CW.

Sorry to be a "Debbie Downer"...

I had been holding out hope that X1 would address the small number of nagging limitations of the Staff View (no - I'm not talking about expanding its scope of the Staff View).   Then X1 arrived with none of the limitations addressed, in fact with the note value icons are gone altogether.  It looked like Benstat's Sonar Plus would ease that pain, but now because of a "minor issue", one has to go to the Control Bar to change note values... So the Staff View has managed, incredibly, to take a step backward.

I'm still on 8.5.3.  I hope to see a hotfix for this issue in the next 2 weeks.

In the meantime, I'm looking for a 3 year old iMac locally.  If I find one for a decent price, I plan on taking my dormant Emagic Logic Gold XSkey and buying an upgrade to Logic Studio.  Life is too short.

    I hear you Debbie,

I trust Cakewalk should be able to fix it rather quickly.

Bring on the Weekly patch/hotfix, until this X1 works.
If something is fixed, it should be passed on as soon as possible.

Hotfixes, should come fast and furious,
like Panups mods... you know, Ninja fast.

We want girls like you, Debbie D. to stick around and not move on to Logic.

    Still enjoying Sonar.

Believe me, I was about to buy a Quad Core tower from my college aged son to help him out financially and so I could have a dedicated X1 music making environment, buy when I heard about this loss of functionality with the Staff View, I just about blew a gasket.  With the other improvements in X1, I had convinced myself that I could limp along for a little while longer with the limitations of Staff View, but to have its functionality diminished?  It's an insult. They didn't even throw us a Staff View bone with the X1 releases  ("perhaps a future release").

I want to remain a Sonar user, and if they fix the Staff View before I find a used Mac for a decent price, I would upgrade my 8.5.3 to X1b or c or hotpatch b.1, but at this point it's a matter of timing.  Logic doesn't currently have anything like Matrix View, but in every other area, I think they've got things covered, if not exceeded.

I can confirm this problem see this http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2263450 and unfortunately benstat little help or Plus does not solve the problem.

Cake have confirmed as a bug and have passed to development for a fix.

I've got to believe if something was broken in X1b, it should be resolved in short order.

It's coming up on a month since Quick Fix 246.

I'm a little surprised we haven't seen a quick fix with the key bindings for note durations fixed in the staff view.   I believe this might be CWBRN-4455...

Hopefully there's a fix around the corner and this is one of the items which will be resolved.

Issues addressed in QuickFix Build 255:
    • CWBRN-5254, 5236, 5215, 5311, 5312: Resolved an issue where when selecting MIDI inputs would not select the correct port in certain situations
    • CWBRN-4455: In the Staff View, the correct note duration is now entered when using the note duration shortcuts to switch between values.
    • CWBRN-4037, 4390: Resolved an issue where Track Interleave settings would change when toggling Input Echo or opening a project containing echoed tracks.
    • CWBRN-5210, 5296: Some audio devices which change the number of inputs and outputs based on the selected sample rate would require a restart of the application before they would work when a project at different the sample rate was loaded. SONAR now detects and dynamically changes the number of ports in response to sample rate changes.
    • CWBRN-5294: Resolved an issue where hiding the ProChannel module in the Console View would not hide the ProChannel GUI if shown/expanded.
    • CWBRN-4046, 5295: The context menu for inserting a Send from the Track Inspector now displays correctly when inserting a second send.
    • CWBRN-4047: Resolved an issue where dragging plug-ins from the plug-in browser could crash or hang SONAR under rare circumstances.
@benstat:  Can you verify if the staff view duration issue is resolved for the Tool HUD as well as the keyboard shortcuts, so you can perform your magic?

I'm not benstat, but a quick test reveals that indeed the HUD duration also seems to be working. At least on my machine
