[TRACK] Darkness Creeps

ello,

would be cool if you could have a listen to this track I am pretty much finished - there are parts which might need altering and bits could be added if a bit repetitive. Anyway comments/crits very welcome.

Wow - those are some serious drum programming/playing skillz! Can I ask how you made the drum tracks?

Overall a solid mix and nice combination of sounds that really emphasize the drums. I think that normally a song that has so many abrupt starts and stops in the drum groove would bother me, but it really works for this track. Nice job!

Sounds very influenced by Aphex Twin's Meltphace6, which is pretty much the best electronic drum and bass track ever made.
This makes your track a lot better than average bordering on very good.

@cryophonik - thanks for listening and commenting, glad you liked it! The drums were not honestly that difficult - I rex'd up a break and loaded it into dimension pro le, then added a few plugs to get a sound I like (dist/parallel compression). Drag the midi pattern from dim pro le to the timeline and just go daft with the edits!! Not a real science, more trial and error. Yeah the abrupt starts and stops are ok-ish, but I have thought about having less of them!

@d45 - cheers for listening and commenting - can't say I have heard that track, or much of aphex twin - I might have to check it out! Glad you liked it.

    Cheers again

    nice work rich

    Starts off ominous sounding
Like the little clicky percussion thing that comes in about :20
The intro builds some nice tension before the jungle drumming kicks in
I like the contrast of the long drawn out notes of the pad and the fast clicky percussion part.
I like your amen slicing. I heard a little flanging on the snare. Intentional?
I’ve been fooling myself with amen slicing in cyclone lately. It is addictive.

Liking this a lot...... Very upbeat but plenty of room for all the sounds and a couple of nice breaks too. The ARP works really well, not to mention those drums! Wicked.

It could just be my headphones.... but to me the bass (kick & synth) could be cranked up even more.....?

    Serioulsy nice work.

    Best Regards, Paul

@eric - glad you like it. I was going for a foreboding type feeling, nice that you thought it had that type of feel. It's not an amen, some other break that I can't remember the name of - I tried to use something other than the amen (depsite how cool it is!). Yeah slicing beats and editing is loads of fun - I think that is the direction I am going in now.

@paul - cheers man, glad you liked it. Yeah I am of the opinion that you can never crank the bass/drums up enough!! I will try it and see how it sounds.

    Cheers for listening.

Very nice track...everything above!... The whole thing seemed to me a tad narrow ... had to check to make sure I was even listening in stereo! I know there's some panning, but it doesn't pan WIDE enough I think. Great track, jsut wanted to toss that out.

nice mix of slow and fast. The drums sound great, but I actually like the parts without. More space for the other sounds to spread out. But that is just me. Some nice distortion etc. going on in the drums.

I have to agree with DA ... the drums are way too narrow; almost mono. I do like the drum arrangement though. Pads are wide, but most of the content is smack in the middle (I'm listening on headphones to make it easier to pick out the detail). Great track!

Straight off I like the dark tone to the opening synth. Drums are nice & aggressive. Cool track
