If you know what it isn't then it can be easier to find what it is. Sometimes it's like the layers of an onion. If someone is trying really hard to convince you it probably isn't so. A whole lot of fact and a little lie isn't truth. A present state only confirms a present state. A past state isn't whatever someone thinks it was unless they happen to be right. A future state is a guess, educated or otherwise. If you don't know what it is or how to find it, then you're at a terrible disadvantage. The feeling that you may have found it can be misleading, since it isn't really about how you feel. Logic can be flawed leading to a false premise. Comfortable opinion is a terrible substitute. If it's autonomous of our thinking, then it doesn't need to hold to our thoughts.

Starise and I could get along. I'm comfortable with ambiguities long enough to find out the truth of things. The truth is, some people simply aren't comfortable with ambiguity.

eph221 BTW when did the smart people stop having the guns?
I know many very smart people that have very many guns. Guns aren't a problem. Stupid people are. Some stupid with a flare gun burned the place to the ground. Lots of lucky people escaped from that stupid.
Spacey, most of the 2nd amendment proponents are dumb as a box of rocks. Show me someone who has a Phd from MIT and also owns guns...gentlemen farmers from Vermont for instance. Not hayseeds shooting at stop signs and drinkin wine from dixie cups.

Yeah, I'm sure you know all of them. You're the one with a low opinion of gun owners. I'm glad it's yours. I'll show you nothing. I don't care what you think.

No, what I'm asking is why doesn't the NRA have venerable folk , Heston aside representing them. One can't help but be left with my impression. The only real positive role models are military folks. *******(edited: this took a poly tickal turn as beepster mentioned *lefty* when indeed it was simply an intellectual/legal discussion)

This is a joke, right? You start going on about the 2nd ammendment and I'M the one that made it political?

The 2nd ammendment is a constitutional issue not a poly tickal issue. (judicial)

Yes, you are the one that made the statements of the type of people that owns guns. I do know for a fact, not an impression, that there are many educated, professional people that own guns and enjoy hunting. I also know the biggest danger for them is having an accident. June is our national safety month by the way. I will offer you another positive role model to consider. Hunters. Our tax money pays for professionals to monitor our wildlife. They are the people that make determinations for controlling the wildlife population. The responsible hunter knows a great deal about the safety aspects of hunting and the seasons legal stipulations for acquiring the game. In the real world hunters are not uneducated fools as you labeled. They are part of our system to control wildlife. When people that don't know what the facts -are unwittingly saying they support it's better for wildlife to multiply to starvation, become a danger to citizens and just better left uncontrolled. That's stupid. Also in my area besides many of the professionals that are avid hunters there are young people that are educated and also educated in handling firearms as well as hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities. Many of the parents are very proud of this and also many, such as a few that I work with, are proud that their sons become the top sniper in our military. Not to mention people that just enjoy going to the shooting range. I know many professionals that enjoy target shooting, some of them hunt, some of them don't. I also know that they don't mind matching brain pans although that is not something they find sporting. I don't agree with you and have no problem with you thinking whatever and I damn sure have no intentions of trying to change your mind. I simply have no problem telling you that I don't agree with you. This thread is about truth and as pointed out earlier...how peoples truth is easily very different. I'm good with that.
