TTS1 is designed to play general midi files and thus has a wider range than synths designed to play primarily one instrument like Dim Pro or SD3. Even trying to assign just one channel to Dim pro is very hit or miss. There was a thread about this problem about a month ago. I believe i was able to fix the problem by converting the midi file from a type 0 to type 1 midi file or vice versa

drag it in, and then you have to be sure all the settings are correct.... I generally insert 1 midi track and one audio track and insert the synth manually in the FX bin on the audio track. If that doesn't work and sometimes on my DAW, when I have an existing synth....and for whatever reason decide to delete that synth and insert a new one....I have to restart the DAW.... sometimes even both the computer and the interface. Doing that switch out synth thing causes communication to stop or lose sync.....a reboot of BOTH gets it going again. so... drag it in, be sure the new synth is set up correctly and if it doesn't play.... save and reboot both interface and computer then try it upon the new restart.

MIDI is MIDI. It doesn't matter if you use a GM MIDI file to trigger a non GM synth. The only real problem is the GM file has PCs (program changes) in it that tell the GM synth which instrument to sound. I would suggest that instead of you dragging the MIDI data to the MIDI track of Dim Pro you redirect the MIDI track's output to Dim Pro. Dim Pro wont respond to PC or bank changes. You do need to be sure that your channel is on 1 for going to Dim Pro. SD 3 handles any MIDI fed to it as drums except it has to be in its range. That is the notes. You check this via the PRV. Other synths such as Kontakt use channels to trigger multiple instruments. However its sequential. The first instrument is normally on channel 1 and the second on 2 and so on. You load the instrument you want for each channel. You may have to edit the MIDI data via the List View in that a volume CC7 or 11 could be wrong for the synth you are using. As long as the note range is not beyond the range of the synth then it should be triggered. Samplers tend to limit the range to the range the instrument truly has. Where GM synths wont. Thus range is important. It can be adjusted via the transposed widget on each MIDI inspector track.

John, what you are saying SHOULD be true, but i believe there is a bug of sorts in DimPro that acts weird depending on the midi file type. When I get a break, I will search for threads verifying the glitch.

damon777 TTS1 plays a midi file just fine but when i drag the same data into another Cakewalk synth, Dim Pro, SD3 etc, not only does it not play but also knocks the synth out even tho i can see midi activity....any ideas guys? Yes it's because the TTS-1 is a GS Synth module which means it's multi-timbral on a per channel basis. In order to get the midi to work in a different synth is to assign the channel of the midi track to a corresponding enabled midi channel on the new destination synth. You'll then hear it playback as well as see the activity. So insert the synth you want then assign the track to that synth, and set the channel to the same channel the synth is recieving data from (normally CH1 if you've just inserted a new synth) Repeat untill you have all tracks assigned. On a multi-timbral player like Kontakt you can assign different instruments and different recieve channels to those instruments without having to insert another instance of it. Just make sure you have all the tracks assigned to the right synths and the right channels basically. In most cases program change events wont make much sense in a non-GM(GS) synth and will largely be ignored (although will sometimes cause unwanted or weird changes in the new synth, so it's best to remove them ultimately). It's channels you need to be concerned with first. GM normally assigns drums to CH10 so load up your SD3 and assign the drum track to that and set the channel from 10 to 1 and you should be golden.
