Tablet for use with Sonar X1 Producer and X2 Producer
Hi, I am new to this forum but have been using Cakewalk products since 2008. I am currently using Sonar X1 Producer and need help finding something. I need a tablet (not iPad) to control the record, stop, play, delete, functions in X1 Producer. Is there a tablet that can do this or does Sonar allow for this sync between a laptop and tablet? I am a one man show producing, singing, and recording by my self. I have a booth setup in my master closet, and have been recording vocals in it for a few months. The problem is my laptop fan coming thru the mic not loud but something I don't want happening. I would like to leave the laptop on my desk and use a tablet to control the basic functions as stated above, record, stop, play, delete. If anyone with knowledge knows of any good tablets that can do this or if Sonar allows this please respond to this thread. I saw on Youtube yesterday that there are some DAW's that allow this function but I don't know if Sonar does or not. Thank you for your help!

Some of the Surface-like tablets ought to be able to run a simple song(s) in SOnar. If you are looking for android tablet there are several programs that people have used them as controllers. TouchDaw is probably the most used, but there are others. Do a search. It also runs on an iPad. Viewsonic has a 23 inch android touch screen that might be a bit much, but you could probably have your entire interface up. There are also hardware controllers - I think prosonus still makes their single fader controller w/ buttons. Of course, you never know what will work w/ your system until you try it. An android tab at this point would probably be the best solution, but no doubt Windows 8 RT will be in the game as soon as developers ... develop one. @

Thank you AT. I'm sort of behind with all the new stuff that is out (and I am a Computer Science Major) but I just need something small that will sync with my laptop. I agree that viewsonic 23" is just way to big. I have a iPhone 4S but not sure if their is a app that will work with Sonar X1 Producer which will allow me to control the record, play, stop, and delete functions. I have seen TouchDaw, it is the reason why I asked about a tablet to control X1 Producer. I'm not sure how big of a screen I would need to see the entire interface. However, seeing the whole interface isn't a concern for me, being able to see the track I'm recording and seeing record, stop, play, and delete is all that matters to me. I have worked with iPad for a long time but IMO it isn't any better or worth the extra money versus a Windows based Android tablet. I don't know to much about the different models of tablets out but I am looking at the Samsung Galaxy Tab. It will be used basically for my wireless remote to control Sonar and to carry the music I create, I have the laptop for other stuff. Thanks again for your help!

Most of the daw controllers require midi ox and other stuff to get it to sync up. Over a year ago I got a 10 inch tab - viewsonic android. But they had their own shop that didn't have any of the apps for music. I guess I could install gingerbread or something, but it seems like a lot of work to maybe get something to work. Got the wife an ipad this X-mas and really need to see if I can get it to work. But there ain't a clean way to do it as far as I can see. I'll probably just wait until I can run sonar on a windows 8 tablet. @

I use both an ipad and an Android tablet with an app to work as a MIDI surface connected via Wifi. S1MidiTrigger on ipad, TouchDAW on Android. I set up my own layouts and configure the MIDI controllers, then I set them in Sonar to be... anything. Play, stop, toggle snap to grid, solo track, whatever. I had it working on the Android for a while, but honestly, I'm using the ipad mostly. Oh, and I use something called rtpMIDI to interface my tablet with the computer through a virtual midi driver.

Well, I've an iPad, but also still use my old Frontier Design Tranzport wireless remote controller with Sonar: http://www.frontierdesign.com/Products/TranzPort Works fine in Win7 and the range is decent. There is also the Presonus Faderport, and Frontier Design Alphatrack both having a motorized fader (so maybe noisy?) but never tried those ones so dunno.
