Take Lane Frustaration--Solved

OK, so I have a guitar part that is exactly how I want it. With one little flub spot. I am trying to re-record just that spot in a take lane. No problems with getting it open or arming that lane etc. The problem, and I am sure it is something that I am overlooking, is that when you are listening to the previously recorded part to stay in time and ready to record; as soon as you hit record the previously recoded part mutes. Which defeats the whole purpose, really. Am I overlooking a setting somewhere? I want to hear the previously recorded part, but I just can't figure it out. Anyone?

Lanes are stupid. And they do not work when using reason.

Best approach:  record to another track.

And then struggle with the lane idiocy.

Best: do not use lanes at all. Just use tracks, in track folders.  More control, sorta.

Open Preferences (P) > Project - Record > Check mark Auto Punch > Uncheck Mute Previous Takes.

You may want to read up on Auto Punch and Loop Record. They are helpful tools for this type of thing but that should solve your issue... I think.

Cheers.

And:
Forget about punching

Mute the sections you do not want to hear

Arm the new track and start recording

Delete the bits on the new track that are not needed.

If you wanna loop, set to record new takes to new lanes and mute the track so you will not hear it next time around.

Thanks for the replies. Preferences (P) > Project - Record > Check mark Auto Punch > Uncheck Mute Previous Takes. This was/is the cure. Much appreciated.

I am completely guilty of just opening the box and not looking at the instructions when I get a new item! Especially X1 & X2.  I am so fortunate to have the forum to help me out when I need it. BUT...I recommend everyone should watch the sonar tutorials on both Sonar University & Groove 3. I learned tons of stuff.  They really are helpful. My own frustration level has reduced quite a bit. Now I am frustrated with my lack of talent, rather than the software!  LOL
